Haters, haters, haters. Give this thread a couple hundred more posts and it'll yield the secrets of the universe. YE MUST HAVE FAITH

so instead of wasting your time here, why don't you all go searching for some rare unreleased clash record and leave everyone else and their music taste alone?
The Clash sucks! They're so popular! I hate their fans!

You had me at " this entire page exists only as a place for sexually frustrated, overly analytical, recordphile music snobs to get together and slam an easy target." -duh.

'The First Church Of Digital Grepping' to Thread

And [He] frowned. He knew those sentient humans would be a
problem. Even after He had sweated over a hot terminal
for thirteen days, those humans were ungrateful. They
called their place of existence the "Universe", not the
"Great Programmer/Universe".

On the fourteenth day, he decided to take action. He
would send these humans The Meaning Of Life, and soon
the world would worship Him and his Hacking Skills.

He did just that. He inspired a certain human to
produce a work of art which includes His message, The
Meaning Of Life. Eventually the humans would discover
the .plan of the Great Programmer hidden in a certain
work of art and all would be well...

The Sacred Readme is a tad vague, but the church's High
Priest believes that "The Meaning Of Life" is encoded in
either a popular song, or a Hollywood movie, or an Adobe
e-book.

or a musicologist forum thread about Das Dafe Mettews Bend.

DMB is the sign of the end times!!
the glazed masses swaying, hopping, TWIRILING to the lethargic sounds.
the idol is the piper, leading the unwashed and the jamtastic to Judgement Day!!!
REPENT DMB FOLLOWERS!!! repent before the heavens rain fire and you spend eternity on an endless, bad jam on 'Dark Star'!!!!!

edde, Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:56 (twenty years ago) link

proof fans of jam bands are yuppie scum

maybe it's like Watchmen, where they take all the people in the know out on a big boat, and then blow it the fuck up.

we can dream, can't we?

haha, i'd love to see an indie cruise, or better yet, a warp records cruise. all those shutins with their laptops sitting out by the pool with layers of SPF 300, playing starcraft and arguing about whether or not astrobotnia is richard james or not.

I wish you dave hataz would at least list your 10 favorite bands that you think are better than DMB.

Its not true that all DMB fans like Phish or Counting Crows.
I like all sorts from The Cure, Depeche Mode, REM,U2,Bowie, Orbital,Massive Attack ,The Jam, Smiths,Echo & The Bunnymen, Killing Joke. I dislike Creed, Grateful Dead, Pearl jam, Nirvana, Counting Crows, Limp bizkit etc.
So come on everyone who posted here tell me your 10 favorite bands.

J (Jay), Friday, 18 July 2003 01:16 (twenty years ago) link

Lifter Puller
Stockholm Monsters
Souled American
Blonde Redhead
Enon
Steely Dan
Morbid Angel
Randy Newman
Rufus Wainwright
The Streets

...and now we just sit back and wait for trife to come in and holler about how those are all white people, but again, that list changes daily - two weeks ago it would've had Scarface on it

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 18 July 2003 01:26 (twenty years ago) link

and by next week Barbara Morgenstern will have replaced Rufus Wainwright, probably

(i love this thread cuz we finally get a sandbox for custos!)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 02:00 (twenty years ago) link

And I'm really, really wondering where this continual DMB-KJ crossover comes in. Everytime I see a DMB googler namecheck Jaz, I can feel another part of Alex dying. It's kind of like how Christians feel whenever Pat Robertson opens his mouth.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 02:01 (twenty years ago) link

Sexually aroused, you mean?

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 18 July 2003 02:30 (twenty years ago) link

XXXactly!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 02:42 (twenty years ago) link

Or castrated, whatever works best.

Anyway, I don't HAVE ten favorite bands. I have more.

In the distant future, a race of super-intelligent, computer-based lifeforms will melt through the ice and thaw out this thread, encased in carbon -- a cold, lonely echo from a long-dead civilzation, nattering away to itself, in the dying days of a long-forgotten world.

Just saw this thread via google and you guys clearly have no taste. Theres no current bands better than DMB. They're in the top ten bands of all time along with the beatles, fleetwood mac, rolling stones, the cure, depeche mode , pink floyd , spacemen 3 and killing joke.

Ok ive never heard of Killing Joke. have no idea who they are or look like, but I read the thread and thought i'd show that Allison wasnt the only DMB fan with a sense of humor.

If you dont like dave because you dont like the albums you've heard the fair enough. But please don't judge them on who some of the fans are. Fans of all bands have buttmunches as beavis would say.

DMB Fan, Friday, 18 July 2003 17:52 (twenty years ago) link

I like you, DMB Fan.
