Getting ready to leave - will try to check out your hairstyle on the road, RR! Mark - glad you got at least some sleep... remy - ugh, that is too early for shelving books. SERIOUSLY

Have a good trip Sara! My best wishes to the pleasant peninsula!

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 13:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks! It should be fun. (once the car is packed)

I should have internets access, so you're not rid of me... don't get too excited. ;)

LAST DITCH PLUMBING EFFORT COMMENCES - NOW

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

ITR Pls to advise:

My friend's record label is putting on their biggest gig since it was founded tonight. It would involve a 1.5hr train ride there and then a long walk and then the gig and then a longer ride back later.

This is not nice weather to be joining a bunch of sweating commuters and I am still somewhat knackered from festivalness but I said I would go and the band will be great (tis Why?).

Go or no-go?

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Urgh I don't know what to suggest. How about this? Over the next few years, your desire to go to events in circumstances like this will be crushed under the massive weight of not wanting to go, so you'll end up staying home more and more. So, if you're on the cusp of indecision, go. It's better to regret something you did do than something you didn't, etc.

Mark C, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 16:43 (fifteen years ago) link

GO. always, always suffer through it and go, because regretting going and wasting your time is much better than regretting missing a great show that all of your friends will talk about endlessly.

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

drain guy sounds like he is beating on something in my basement with a hammer.

this can not be a good sign.

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

You are right. I will drink heavily on the train and all will be awesomeness.

Have you seen your cat lately...?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 16:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Always Go To The Rock Show.

This is the only good piece of advice I received from a woman in high school who was otherwise a total jerk.

en i see kay, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Good advice, but may not apply to plays. (And NO, John, this has nothing whatsoever to do with you. I just tried to go to a friend's play the other day and it was an unmitigated disaster/grave error.)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 01:00 (fifteen years ago) link

I went to the show and it was GR8. Bunked the train there and back this morning so cost me naaaaaafing.

I also successfully cockblocked my friend who was keen to sleep with the band's german tour manager. I think his girlfriend's lovely so consider this to be a good and not a heinous deed.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 08:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Yay, glad you went and had fun. It sounds like your presence was required there, too!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 09:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I had an hour-long googlechat exchange last night entirely in French!

Mark C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 10:03 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm back in the land of smog. No wonder my throat feels dry.

Flipside: no more humid heat to deal with!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 10:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Mark, let's chat at some point soon (like when I get back to my house after July 13)! I can't do it in FRENCH, though. Or rather, I could, but wow would it not make sense. (sounds fun, however...)

Glad you made it home, Ned!

We're off in the car again in a few minutes... hopefully today will be a better travel day.

I wish I could play Scrabulous at work. I suck at it. I have few skilz. Haven't played scrabble since I was a kid. SO MUCH FUN

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Sara yes! English is fine, though I might throw in a few Italian phrases for that smooth latin charmer vibe.

(um, I just said your username out loud and "R-C" sounds a bit, um, unfortunate in British English...)

Mark C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:54 (fifteen years ago) link

that fuckin eyes wide shut thread with the laura brannigan video was the cause of an extremely awful nightmare i just had. i wilfully woke myself, it was so goddamn scary and now i'm too scared to back to sleep.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link

You...you live among THE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT!

(Night!)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, anything with Tom Cruise in it is bound to cause some sleep disturbances.

Mark, you are making me happier about the ridiculous last name that I actually have... the abbreviation just sounds like semi-obscure COLA here. (Also mmmmmmm Italian...)

FB is better at Scrabble than he's letting on, btw. Although he did start FIVE games with me, which may or may not have been a computer glitch. Sadly, I think he's beating me in all of them. (SO FAR)

If only I knew who those dudes were. But YAY anyway!

My mood was greatly improved by 1. getting out of the car and 2. having a really good dinner.

My name is H.G. Wells. I came here in a time machine of my own construction. I am pursuing Jack the Ripper, who escaped into the future in my machine.

Dear Mr Bot,

As representative of the HG Wells Estate I am obliged to inform you that the unauthorised adaptation of the HG Wells title "The Time Machine" is in breach of the 1956 contract between the FR Wells Estate and George Pal (assigned to Warner Bros Inc. 1958) and as such I request that you remove the offending post immediately.

Thank you for your urgent attention, and best wishes.

Mark C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 10:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I honestly am the Wells estate's agent. But you can have that one from free, tom.

Mark C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 12:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Mark, you know you are just making me want to see that movie now, right?

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 13:10 (fifteen years ago) link

GOOD MORNING TO YOU ALL BTW!

I am going to eat breakfast and go for a long walk with A. and my best friend and my best friend's dog. Kids are out at some crazy scheduled all-morning activity that happens here in the land of rich people. Apparently 4lex will be going sailing this afternoon (!?!).

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 13:12 (fifteen years ago) link
