They are playing tonight at Sonar in Baltimore. I have a cold and tons of work to do. But I am SOOO tempted. Thoughts on this matter?

Only a train ride away, a wee adventure.

krakow, Sunday, 18 October 2009 22:56 (fourteen years ago) link

i leave that kind of adventure to rich photographers.

Bah! Advance train fares and friends couches, there's no need to be rich.

Saint Vitus drummer Armando Acosta died the other week. We have Joe Carducci's remembrance with a lot of details of recording their early albums in the New Vulgate.

Ray Farrell also contributes.

New album is pretty slight, but I like it!

its terrific

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:20 (eleven years ago) link

Its good, but I can't help but feeling slightly disappointed with only 34 minutes and two tracks being just instrumental pieces (good ones at that, mind you, but still).

Finally getting to hear the new record in preparation for seeing them Friday. First off, it sounds amazing. Clarity and heft, and though Wino is way up front as always it doesn't take away the power of the band behind as it does on some of the 80s records. However, there isn't a lot of meat on the bones. A short record, and not incredibly memorable despite being recorded so well. Maybe it'll grow a bit more over time, but I'm a few listens in and waiting for the earworm. I do expect the songs will work well live mixed in with the classic material.

The poor opinions of the rhythm section way upthread do not compute. They slay.

Spirit Caravan were so much better.

Agreed. The Hidden Hand, also, was much stronger musically and lyrically than St Vitus. Wino's other bands essentially do the same thing but better. Especially the lyrics and riffs.

moley, Thursday, 18 October 2012 23:20 (eleven years ago) link

Definitely disagree. Vitus trumps all those other bands. CLASSIC.

harpal, Friday, 19 October 2012 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

Just found out there is a tribute band out there named Ain't Vitus. Love both the name and that they exist.

Saw these guys open for Down in 2012. They were really good. Anselmo came out and sang "War Is Our Destiny" with Wino, which was fine.

Dave's interviewed on the You Don't Know Mojack ep about Thirsty and Miserable. Good interview but apparently Season of Mist fucked them on the last album and he's not happy with them generally. Always seemed like an odd fit tbh.

they also shared this amazing Naomi pic shot at the same time as the EP cover

Kind of wild that they had an album that came and went last year with nary a mention on this thread. It was really, really grest.

Chief Kyiv, Friday, 3 April 2020 15:11 (four years ago) link

in that interview Dave says the label didn't do any promo at all and refused to put it out in time for their scheduled tour. don't know what that's about, but it is a really good album that deserves attention.

Corduroy Stridulations (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 3 April 2020 15:36 (four years ago) link

That was a really good album. I feel really lucky to have seen them on the tour before that - they opened for Down and Anselmo (I know, I know) came out to sing "War Is Our Destiny" with them.
