Stevie puts himself into first by not only screwing up his lines but then breaking out the harmonica for a cheese-tastic solo.

Norah Jones. She doesn't try anything fancy yet still misses all of her notes.
― abanana, Friday, 16 October 2009 16:27 (fourteen years ago) link
No one who had to sing the "nothing's gonna change my world" solo line actually knew how it went! Alicia and Steven appear to be the only ones who can hear themselves.
― RETARTED (HI DERE), Friday, 16 October 2009 17:20 (fourteen years ago) link
also what the hell did Stevie attempt to sing at the beginning of his solo
― RETARTED (HI DERE), Friday, 16 October 2009 17:21 (fourteen years ago) link
and exactly how drunk/crazy is Brian Wilson
― RETARTED (HI DERE), Friday, 16 October 2009 17:22 (fourteen years ago) link
norah jones is one of the only people whose voice actually suits the song, so on that alone she's above average
steven tyler might actually be my favorite, first line sounds surprisingly good and then he managed to do the alley cat screech in a way that's not nearly as embarrassing as a lot of the more earnest performances

would love to go back in time to 1989 and hand billie joe a vhs copy of this at gillman st

"All Of The Above" - this is dreadful. Special mentions to Stevie Wonder for not remembering at least half the words, and BJA.

I will admit to being incredibly impressed at how Allison Krause made her violin sound like a harmonica until the camera panned over.

A look into the thought processes of Slash: "hmmmm, maybe for this song I should play a 12 string through a phaser". I couldn't tell if he was playing the right notes, or the wrong notes, or just a bunch of random notes.

steven tyler: "I got shotgun on the marachas"
― sofatruck, Friday, 16 October 2009 18:35 (fourteen years ago) link
he is playing those things like someone told him his colon would shoot out of his ass if he stopped, but someone is beheading a puppy in front of him on every shake

between Billie Joe and Steven Tyler....went with Tyler I think but this is so inconsequential that I can't remember even 20 seconds after the fact. The ending is absolutely dreadful, the best caterwaul money could buy in 2005, I guess.

stevie w ruins a perfectly decent duff mckagan backing track
― sonderangerbot, Friday, 16 October 2009 19:12 (fourteen years ago) link
I would love to see footage of the rehearsal -- maybe we'd discover whose idea it was to alter the lyrics to "something's gonna change my world". (Although this could have transpired while they were waiting backstage at showtime, considering all the evidence that no serious rehearsal took place.)

hard to say if Bono's silence at the end is because he's just really feeling it or if he thinks the whole thing is lame. okay not that hard.

Had to vote Bono, cos during the second line he just looses his breath and goes "uni-veerse" in some godawful way. I'm sure there is worse stuff on here, but opening up a song like that is a good way to win this.
― Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 8 July 2011 23:33 (twelve years ago) link
Yay when Stevie comes on w the harmonica it feels like an incidental piece from "Family Matters" soundtrack.
