I wanna be gay too! Why can't I be gay?

J (Jay), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:11 (twenty years ago) link

oh J, it's so easy to be gay!

however, most of us gay-folk are now trying to ascend to the level of TEH GHEY, which only the gayest acolytes/members/devotees may achieve.

it's a long, hard trip, but we'll all get there in the end.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:36 (twenty years ago) link

You're so precious, I'd do anything;
Voguing from your feet to where your weave begins.
You're so glammy, you're too good to be true!
You make me, make me, make me, make me want to buy shoes!

Everything you do is simply fabulous!
Everything you wear is quite exquisite!
So why can't I be gay???

GREAT NEWS!! DAVE MATTHEWS SOLO ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!

Edited By Jonathan Cohen. July 14, 2003, 4:15 PM ET

Matthews Gets 'Personal' On 'Some Devil'

Dave Matthews tells Billboard.com that, in many ways, his recently completed solo debut reveals a side of the singer/songwriter that his fans have not yet seen. Matthews says "Some Devil," due in September on RCA, includes some of his most introspective material to date. "This was very, very, very, very personal," he says. "It was a good soul-searching thing for me to do. I think the songs are more introspective in many ways."

The album features an as-yet-untitled track co-written by Matthews and Phish's Trey Anastasio, who also adds guitar work to the record. Steve Harris, who produced Dave Matthews Band's last studio effort, "Busted Stuff," played on "Some Devil" and co-wrote and arranged some of the songs with Matthews.

The bulk of the album is composed of songs written this year. Some fans will recognize the tracks "Stay or Leave" and "Gravedigger," a pair of cuts Matthews has played over the last year at his acoustic dates with Tim Reynolds. Reynolds plays guitar on the set, which also features drummer Brady Blade and bassist Tony Hall, both of whom have played with Emmylou Harris.

"Some Devil" was created gradually over the past year and finished about a month ago. Initially, Matthews says he didn't know "what I was gonna do with all this. And then it all started to fall together and get personality, and started to sound a little more legitimate. Going into it, it just seemed like a good therapy, ya know? And then it started to really take on some personality. [After a few months] we started thinkin', 'We might be makin' something worthwhile here.'"

Of "Gravedigger" and "Stay or Leave," Matthews says, "They didn't ever really sit in with the band. They never really got their heads above the water. They never really developed, and I'm not sure what the reasoning was, maybe just the wrong day. They're songs that I like, so I was messing with those, but I was also messing with other ideas."

"I think the idea of recording a couple of things that just didn't have a place with the band grew into a sort of, just a writing experience and recording experience that in some ways I hadn't really expected," he continues. The vast majority of the Dave Matthews Band catalog is composed of songs co-written by its five members, the exception being songs from the album "Everyday," many of which were co-written by Matthews and songwriter/producer Glen Ballard.

Matthews says there's really no comparison between the songs on "Some Devil" and those on his band efforts. And as the album nears release, he says that he's excited, but he is being cautious not to get his hopes up: "Like most of what I've done, it's done, and so now I just move on from it. I'm excited, I hope people like it, but I try not to get too excited because what if everyone f***in' hates it? Then I can let it go like an empty beer can. That's the way I look at it now: My part in it is done, and I hope people like it. But in case they don't, I'm gonna try not to invest too much in it that I might be disappointed."

Why do you think we throw stuff at you?

You own all our cd's- you're gay, you're gay
You own all our 7"s- you're gay, you're gay
You bought all our t-shirts- you're gay, you're gay
You go to all our shows- you're gay, you're gay

[Chorus:] All our fans are gay [x4]

You think you know what we are singing about- you're wrong
You think we care about the underground- you're wrong
You think we won't fuck up your club- you're wrong
You think we care if you like us- you're wrong

[Chorus]

If we're nice to you, it's because we're broke
Or unless you got some drugs to smoke
When the drugs are gone, then we are too
Then we'll go back to making fun of you

[Fan voice:] "But I've supported you guys for so long"
FAGGOT!

have any of you listened to dmb? i would have been interested to hear some real reasons they were disliked. i was sadly disappointed. this entire page exists only as a place for sexually frustrated, overly analytical, recordphile music snobs to get together and slam an easy target. of course you can rip dmb to shreds--he's one of the highest selling touring acts in history. if you consider yourself a music snob, being popular is reason enough to hate said offender with the fire of a thousand suns. whether or not i am a dmb fan has no bearing on whether or not i think every person who has posted hear is a close-minded music snob asshole--the absolute worst kind of music lover. so instead of wasting your time here, why don't you all go searching for some rare unreleased clash record and leave everyone else and their music taste alone? so you don't like dmb, who cares? but don't try and convince yourself and everyone else that your opinions are worth more just because you are a
"nonconformist." that's about as conformist as it gets. please, someone get a real opinion. i'm begging you.

And [He] frowned. He knew those sentient humans would be a
problem. Even after He had sweated over a hot terminal
for thirteen days, those humans were ungrateful. They
called their place of existence the "Universe", not the
"Great Programmer/Universe".

On the fourteenth day, he decided to take action. He
would send these humans The Meaning Of Life, and soon
the world would worship Him and his Hacking Skills.

He did just that. He inspired a certain human to
produce a work of art which includes His message, The
Meaning Of Life. Eventually the humans would discover
the .plan of the Great Programmer hidden in a certain
work of art and all would be well...

The Sacred Readme is a tad vague, but the church's High

either a popular song, or a Hollywood movie, or an Adobe
e-book.

Rufus Wainwright
The Streets
