And Drew better be doing the music, too! I can't imagine it any other way.

Thanks to everyone who bought the DVD set, mtv has agreed to produce more animated Aeon.
It will not run on mtv, so no BS&P to contend with.

My hope is to make the best version of AF yet. Closer in tone and style to the LTV shorts, but with a longer running time, a complex, character-driven story, and the relationship between Trevor and Aeon preserved from the series. Dialog will be minimal. Visual storytelling will be exploited to its fullest. (I've realized that for myself, the LTV shorts have the greatest replay value for those reasons.)

When the project starts, there is a plan is to set up a new official website dedicated to AF which will include production news and discussion.

So far, this is the plan. Everything could change tomorrow, but as I said, things are looking good for now.

Peter Chung, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:01 (sixteen years ago) link

This sounds ideal!

I can only guess what BS&P stands for. Frustrating when guys who do not have anything to do with the vision end up in charge.

Barb e., Thursday, 4 October 2007 00:36 (sixteen years ago) link

BS&P is broadcast standards and practices, if I remember correctly. I'm glad to hear there will be none of their restrictions! That must be a first for Aeon -- I wonder, will it make the content turn out all that differently? I imagine not. Still, one has to wonder if MTV won't impose its own restrictions of some sort.

Kudos to MTV to keep believing in Aeon, if only for some financial reason. Hang in there, Peter! This is like the Second Coming for us cult followers, especially after that Antichrist that was "Aeon Flux: The Motion Picture".

Matt Rebholz, Thursday, 4 October 2007 01:21 (sixteen years ago) link

An official Aeon Flux website will be another welcome thing -- something the show's never properly had (I suppose because it mostly predated the explosion of the web, which I first discovered at the same time I discovered, or rather re-discovered, AF in '95). Considering the strength of her popularity, AF has never had a large web presence. But I wonder if this is still something better left in the hands of fans?

I have to wonder if MTV hasn't started deciding to return to its 1990's state, when it still had some strength of innovation. I stopped watching the network regularly about the time that Britney Spears appeared on scene in 1999; it seems prophetic that MTV has decided to bring Aeon back now that the network is struggling, what with the recent Video Music Awards having lost its previous luster, and Britney's bizarre downfall playing a part in that.

Matt Rebholz, Thursday, 4 October 2007 01:31 (sixteen years ago) link

This is amazing... I might need to get MTV... or a TV at all for that matter.

Maxtheman36, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I get the feeling it's not going to be on TV this time.

Matt Rebholz, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 02:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Guys, if you'll notice Peter said "it will not run on mtv", so that let's out the BS&P.

three weeks pass...

I hope we hear more on this, I'm really wanting to see these new episodes, man.

three months pass...

Any updates on this?

JuntMonkey, Saturday, 9 February 2008 23:08 (sixteen years ago) link

There have been some new developments in the plan.

All I can say is that we are moving ahead; however, the new version will not be out this year.
These things take a long time. It took 3 years for the the half-hour series to make it to the air (1995) after the second season of LTV (1992).

Plus, I'm also working on other projects.

Peter Chung, Sunday, 10 February 2008 15:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Great, thanks for the response!

This could probably be its own thread, but what are some recent (or not) works of animation/live-action/graphic novels/books/video games etc. that you would recommend for your fans? I've downloaded "In" and will watch it shortly.

Do you know if the Aeon Flux video game (movie-based) is worth playing for fans of the series? From what I've seen it takes a lot of elements from the animated Aeon world, and it got decent reviews. Just wondering if you had played it yourself.

JuntMonkey, Monday, 11 February 2008 02:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't play video games, but...
If you're a fan of the show, I think you'll enjoy it. Many of the characters are based on the animated version more than the movie. Scaphandra, Trevor the Breen soldiers all resemble the originals, not the movie.

There's a fantastic Hungarian animated feature called Feherlofia I'd recommend to anyone looking for something totally different from the usual commercial product.

I've been posting on the anipages forum lately:
http://www.pelleas.net/aniBBS/viewforum.php?f=1

I started a thread there to discuss the film "in". Join in with your comments after you've watched it. I'm very interested in knowing what people think.
Also, the thread on Japanese animation theory generated a lot of heated discussion.

Was there ever any work done with this? I can't imagine that there aren't at least some storyboards, something.

i would be v surprised if you were a fan of the show, aimless.

Traffic in this forum is so low that I never bothered to remove it from Site New Answers in my Preferences. Did you find my comment objectionable? If so, I shall withdraw it, although it seemed apt enough to me.

Aimless, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 01:29 (nine years ago) link

nah, just thought it kind of amusing that you had to weigh in on *this* as well

clouds, Thursday, 10 July 2014 19:00 (nine years ago) link

It was in another thread that Peter explained why the moving ahead with new episodes got cancelled. That's a good question though, clouds. I would bet for sure there are some pre production bits and pieces - at the very least they'll exist inside the mind of the creator :) But I imagine Peter wouldn't reveal any ideas that could still be used in future works.

Sam G, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 17:26 (nine years ago) link

it's also somewhat strange that chung never entered into comics/graphic novels in a larger way, as AE kind of eminently lends itself to that sort of treatment imo

clouds, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 20:10 (nine years ago) link

for AE i mean AF obv

two weeks pass...

Update:
After Firebreather, I pursued chances to work on feature projects.
Some was my own development work, then storyboarding on features for Amazon, Sony and Dreamworks.
I found the creative process in the US. animated feature industry non accommodating for personal expression, unfortunately.

I've decided to get back into T.V., as that's the venue where creators have the most opportunity to make a mark. I am currently developing several series to pitch.
It's an exciting time for me and I hope to be able to announce something soon.

Peter Chung, Saturday, 2 August 2014 06:12 (nine years ago) link

wow! thanks for the update!!

Cheers, Peter!

Nhex, Saturday, 2 August 2014 17:43 (nine years ago) link

I'm looking forward to whatever you end up making, Peter. Hopefully, the ensuing success will finally give you the opportunity to make new Aeon Flux episodes or maybe even a movie, if the new project doesn't end up being either of those two!
