Okay so have you folks heard this? They really did some amazing shit. My preconceived notions have been blown away, I really don't understand it. I heard them over 20 years ago, never quite got it until now.

"The Index Masters" and "Dark Continent" are both pretty twisted, phenomenal fun. New wave Beefheart meets Raymond Chandler shit. Highly recommended. I still can't believe A&M bothered to put the latter out on CD at one point and so very much cherish it.

You say Wall of Voodoo and people go, "Mexican Radio, hahaha." They know nothing. Call of the West is their weakest album; Dark Continent is a lost 80s classic. Unfortunately copies of Dark Continent are hard to come by - I've seen CD copies go for >$100 on eBay.

Ugh... that was the post-Stannard Ridgeway period you're referring to... the Andy Prieboy years make the vomit rise up.

ten months pass...
In their continuing quest to utterly baffle me, the radio station my coworkers have on just stopped playing "What Hurts the Most", "SexyBack", and the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack long enough to rock "Mexican Radio". I seriously thought for a moment that I had overworked myself (hahaha yeah right) and begun to hallucinate.

Big ups for The Index Masters. I love the moment in the live version of "Animal Day" where Ridgway says something to the effect of "who writes this stuff?!" about his own lyrics.

This is embarassing. I don't even remember starting this thread. Where the hell is my Index Masters CD now? Hopefully correctly filed. No. Actually I do recall seeing it in a certain pile. I bet it's there.

I played Index Masters last night, in celebration of seeing Stan Ridgway live! Big fun, both.

"The Passenger" was the greatest, thats the one written from the perspective of a plane-hijacker isn't it? Loved that tune so much

Lurve this and just about everything Stan's done. Last time I saw him, he and the band took the back exit during the applause for an encore and came in the back of the house and cheered for themselves!

Didn't "Lost Continent" get reissued at last?
