ALIEN ANT FARM - SMOOTH CRIMINAL

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 16:41 (sixteen years ago) link

whiney pretty much spot on. additions/amendments:

- POD were unequivocally shit. ditto staind + disturbed.
- SOAD's first album is almost as good as toxicity. and hypnotize/mesmerize was flabby with daron. doesn't work as a double. would have made a good single album.
- korn's 'issues' is their best. but I'm aware that I'm the only person on the planet to think so, including the band themselves. never got on with the debut for some reason... other korn goodnesses as already mentioned: 'freak on a leash' + 'here to stay'.
- there are about four good songs on mudvayne's 'LD 50'
- ditto slipknot's self-titled
- tentative addition of Hed.PE to this list...?

i refuse to refer to sepultura - roots as a nu-metal album

I enjoy SOAD and have taken huge amounts of abuse from it from basically everyone I know; questioning my taste in metal, raised eyebrows, nervous coughs, pregnant silence, darting glances when I have mentioned them. I will continue to listen to them, never speaking on this topic again except to mention, finally, that Mesmerize is a really fun metal album, especially "Radio/Video", and that many zit-faced teenage introverts would agree with me.

If you consider Sepulture or Will Haven nu-metal, I'll vouch for all kinds of great songs.

Beyond that, I can't go there.

Maybe the Jonathan Davis guest scat solos and DJ Lethal guest scratches were just by accident?

I might even put Primus's The Anti-Pop on that list.

Yeah, well does the tribal drumming make it a World Music album? xpost

Nu-metal sucks. Great and nu-metal are oxymoronic. I'd rather douse myself in gasoline than ever listen to nu-metal again.

Roots is 100% nu-metal - it's practically Ross Robinson + some session guys. They do not get a free pass just because they once wrote Troops Of Doom in a Belo Horizonte slum.

Blood Brothers are a bit nu-metal, aren't they?

o. nate, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 18:26 (sixteen years ago) link

They have the Ross Robinson connection - since he "discovered" them and produced "Burn Piano Island Burn". They're not straight-up nu-metal but it's an ingredient in their sound.

Is Will Haven nu-metal? Their 1st and 3rd albums are immaculate.

Blood Brothers + nu-metal = ??

"One Step Closer" is way better than both "Crawling" (which I never liked) and "In The End"

nine years pass...

I like the Disturbed cover of "Sound of Silence" despite the dripping auto-tune

and their second album actually

"Stupify" is one of the few nu-metal songs I like too
