I travelled through a land of men,A land of men and women too,And heard and saw such dreadful thingsAs cold earth wanderers never knew.

For there the babe is born in joyThat was begotten in dire woe,Just as we reap in joy the fruitWhich we in bitter tears did sow;
And if the babe is born a boyHe’s given to a woman old,Who nails him down upon a rock,Catches his shrieks in cups of gold.
She binds iron thorns around his head,And pierces both his hands and feet,And cuts his heart out of his sideTo make it feel both cold & heat.
Her fingers number every nerveJust as a miser counts his gold; She lives upon his shrieks and cries—And she grows young as he grows old,

Till he becomes a bleeding youthAnd she becomes a virgin bright; Then he rends up his manaclesAnd pins her down for his delight.
He plants himself in all her nervesJust as a husbandman his mould,And she bcomes his dwelling-placeAnd garden, frutiful seventyfold.
An aged shadow soon he fades,Wandering round and earthly cot,Full filled all with gems and goldWhich he by industry had got.

in my world, that goes without saying, but ta for the confirmation.so, back to these hipster albums ..i'm relying on this thread for future reference when they all appear in fopp @ £3 given that i have fallen off the radar in '09 (too much miles davis/david axelrod ..)
― mark e, Thursday, 19 November 2009 17:03 (sixteen years ago)
the film has its good points (as per usual with DePalma there is one long reveal-tracking shot that is fantastic). by contrast, the ending shot/sequence is some of the most laughably bad shit ever. also the acting is by and large terrible. and he takes at least one major liberty with the book that is completely against the grain of Elroy's writing (i.e., having one of the protagonists kill a woman)

― scott seward, Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:33 (sixteen years ago)
doesn't get any hipper than this, people!
These Violens types any good then? I know the name entirely because they are about to support the band White Lies on tour and I can say that is not a thing that piques my interest as a rule

i like it. their stuff from the EP they did and a single is on youtube. reminds me of lansing-dreiden, and that's a good thing with me. one of them was/is a part of lansing-dreiden, i think? the singer/guitar guy. i never look these kinds of things up.

Really? hmm. Maybe I should give it another chance. Their first three albums are pretty awesome, especially Castaways and Cutouts, and Picaresque. The Crane Wife seemed overproduced and kind of bland, tbh, and Hazards just seemed so unwieldy that I never devoted much time to it. I feel like the more The Decemberists invest in their rock-opera theatre-kid shtick, the harder it is for me to take them seriously.

I actually decided to give them a chance when I saw a big flyer up on the kiosk for a show they are playing in my town in February.Watched a couple of videos on youtube and I know some of their friends and the guy who directed the videos.:-/

Oh yeah, decided to check them out because the singer in the band is wearing a Suede shirt on the poster. Will probably go to the show just to meet chicks.

I guess The Clientele's new disc isn't a "Hipster Album." And it's sure as hell not a big Rawk Album or a Mall-Rock or Emo-Punk Album. All of which leaves it in a funny nowhere land, which is a shame. Such a good group, and a fine new disc.
Anyway, F--k Buttons, I imagine.
