I travelled through a land of men,
A land of men and women too,
And heard and saw such dreadful things
As cold earth wanderers never knew.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

For there the babe is born in joy
That was begotten in dire woe,
Just as we reap in joy the fruit
Which we in bitter tears did sow;

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

And if the babe is born a boy
He’s given to a woman old,
Who nails him down upon a rock,
Catches his shrieks in cups of gold.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

She binds iron thorns around his head,
And pierces both his hands and feet,
And cuts his heart out of his side
To make it feel both cold & heat.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

Her fingers number every nerve
Just as a miser counts his gold;
She lives upon his shrieks and cries—
And she grows young as he grows old,

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

Till he becomes a bleeding youth
And she becomes a virgin bright;
Then he rends up his manacles
And pins her down for his delight.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

He plants himself in all her nerves
Just as a husbandman his mould,
And she bcomes his dwelling-place
And garden, frutiful seventyfold.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

An aged shadow soon he fades,
Wandering round and earthly cot,
Full filled all with gems and gold
Which he by industry had got.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

Jack Kirby's Orangutan Surfing Civilization (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

GO THICK AMOS! (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

re film : shame. i enjoyed the book and so have been waiting to see the film. guess i'll scrub that from my list then.

mark e, Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:52 (sixteen years ago)

and avoid the metalcore band too

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

in my world, that goes without saying, but ta for the confirmation.
so, back to these hipster albums ..
i'm relying on this thread for future reference when they all appear in fopp @ £3 given that i have fallen off the radar in '09 (too much miles davis/david axelrod ..)

mark e, Thursday, 19 November 2009 17:03 (sixteen years ago)

the film has its good points (as per usual with DePalma there is one long reveal-tracking shot that is fantastic). by contrast, the ending shot/sequence is some of the most laughably bad shit ever. also the acting is by and large terrible. and he takes at least one major liberty with the book that is completely against the grain of Elroy's writing (i.e., having one of the protagonists kill a woman)

Jack Kirby's Orangutan Surfing Civilization (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 November 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)

no mention of monoliths and dimensions yet? for shame

scott seward, Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:33 (sixteen years ago)

These Violens types any good then? I know the name entirely because they are about to support the band White Lies on tour and I can say that is not a thing that piques my interest as a rule

19349 things paedophiles like to complain about (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:55 (sixteen years ago)

i like it. their stuff from the EP they did and a single is on youtube. reminds me of lansing-dreiden, and that's a good thing with me. one of them was/is a part of lansing-dreiden, i think? the singer/guitar guy. i never look these kinds of things up.

scott seward, Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

Really? hmm. Maybe I should give it another chance. Their first three albums are pretty awesome, especially Castaways and Cutouts, and Picaresque. The Crane Wife seemed overproduced and kind of bland, tbh, and Hazards just seemed so unwieldy that I never devoted much time to it. I feel like the more The Decemberists invest in their rock-opera theatre-kid shtick, the harder it is for me to take them seriously.

wrapped up, packed up, ribbon with a donk on it (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 26 November 2009 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

loool dude i was joking

we be emi robin' (k3vin k.), Thursday, 26 November 2009 22:09 (sixteen years ago)

that's why i said hazards of love cause hipsters sometimes like the shittiest music (animal collective) and hazards of love is terrible, therefore hipster bait

FACK, Thursday, 26 November 2009 22:12 (sixteen years ago)

Fucking hell. This is why you do not post to ILX while halfway through a nap.

GIRLS ALBUM

Trip Maker, Friday, 27 November 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

i hope i never, ever hear that record, accidentally or otherwise

electrical audio's sm57 (electricsound), Friday, 27 November 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

I actually decided to give them a chance when I saw a big flyer up on the kiosk for a show they are playing in my town in February.
Watched a couple of videos on youtube and I know some of their friends and the guy who directed the videos.
:-/

Trip Maker, Friday, 27 November 2009 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

Oh yeah, decided to check them out because the singer in the band is wearing a Suede shirt on the poster.
Will probably go to the show just to meet chicks.

Trip Maker, Friday, 27 November 2009 01:06 (sixteen years ago)

good call, good call

FACK, Friday, 27 November 2009 03:25 (sixteen years ago)

I guess The Clientele's new disc isn't a "Hipster Album." And it's sure as hell not a big Rawk Album or a Mall-Rock or Emo-Punk Album. All of which leaves it in a funny nowhere land, which is a shame. Such a good group, and a fine new disc.

Anyway, F--k Buttons, I imagine.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 27 November 2009 03:29 (sixteen years ago)

so basically this is the thread where we list albums that were pitchfork best new music this year?
