What does methadone taste like?

To clarify, I'm talking about these:

You drop the wafer in water and it dissolves. The already-liquid methadone (which is, I think, reddish) might taste different.

Yeah, I mean, it seems nuts to get it so casually but it would make people's lives a lot less dirt-miserable if they could get their dosage at a regular drugstore on something like business hours, instead of lining up with the homeless, crack-smoking, clearly insane, and people who have just given up, en masse. Not to mention the problems with Sunday dosages, 3-day weekends, making a mistake or having a schedule conflict and missing the limited hours of distribution and then starting to detox because you were at therapy or at a job interview or because the methadone and other meds they prescribe make you so dopey that you forgot the clinic would only be open until 10.30 am.

Because THAT'S sure as hell not gonna help you get the infrastructure of your life back together.

Dangerous stuff and it's harder to kick than heroin. Also, if you combine it with an anti-anxiety medication like klonopin, you can pretty much approximate the exact effect of snorting (not shooting) H. So a junkie can get meth from the gov't, klonopin from a shrink, and voila, back to business as usual.

Yeah, Klonopin is actually what I had in mind up there. Bad bad bad bad.

I once procured a bunch of 40 mg orange tablets, which had no discernable flavor. And yeah it's basically as good a high as any other opiate! At least when you not strung out/have virginal receptors.

I thought methadone prevented the detox but didn't give any kind of high?

that's the line. and if you are strung out on natural opiates methadone won't do much for you. but the only way it prevents detox is by keeping you 'high' = what's the point? today there are much much better alternative like, suboxone, which wean you off while preventing dt's.

That's what I had too--a friend of mine's parents are like 90 years old and one of their friends has chronic pain and left a bottle of them at the their house. No one noticed it for many months and she never asked for them back. I tried it a couple times and it was really nice but freakishly long-lasting. I remember going to bed and waking up as high as I was when I'd gone to bed and thinking, 'fuck, is this ever going to end?' And then going and nodding out in front of the tv for a few more hours. Good times.

Laurel: I think if you don't have an opiate tolerance it gets you high--if you're already strung out, it just maintains. At least that's my understanding. I've never gotten strung out, thankfully.

You can get it at the chemist?

It's on prescription for heroin addicts on programmes. Some of them get to take a bottle home and ration themselves, others have to neck it in front of the chemist to prevent them storing it up or selling it.

I'm not sure how well this works as many of them just use the methadone to kick-start their day before they go score some real drugs.

Maintenance is mostly what it's about, isn't it?

Unfortunately the alternate methods that work better and hurt you less in the long run aren't offered for free by the public/civic clinics, because they don't give a shit whether you ever get clean.

Yeah it's just about recidivism. The nasty underside of that, though, is that they'd rather have you on the methadone than help you get clean unless you're basically a perfect case, so not only do they not offer a clear path to cutting down/getting off, but they actively RESIST your cutting down. And in order to be a perfect case, you'd have to not have any of the problems that made heroin use seem like an attractive prospect in the first place.
