Computer nerds: Why don't my cd/dvd drives recognize a cd when I put it in the tray?

I sure hope someone here can help me. First, I'm on win Xp and I have two drives (CD and DVD). Yesterday I installed a new internal hard drive, and today I was going to play a cd on the computer, and it won't recognize the disc or even show up in my computer. The trays operate normally by opening up and all, but it just won't show what disc I put in or play anything in itunes. What happened?

No. It doesn't recognize ANY cd. I tried a Hawkwind cd and also a cdr i had.

I'm thinking it maybe had something to do with the installation of the new hd. I don't know that much about the technical computer stuff.

the IDE cable might have been knocked loose - try making sure it's firmly seated at both the motherboard and the drive.

or master/slave configuration might be borked - have you mucked around in the BIOS?

No. I haven't messed with the BIOS at all. I'll open the case and check the cables.

dayo, the problem solver!

I guess the ide cable came loose on the motherboard. Something so simple.

Thanks for your help!
