eman, does your 1TB have a separate power supply, or is it FW-powered?

i have a macbook from 2006 (i replaced the hd in 2007 because it died) and i need an external hd. every day i think about how stupid i am just having one internal hd, especially since i have experienced that catastrophe already. what is a quality affordable 1 TB hard drive in 2010?

G-Drive.

why so much variation in price between brands? also learning customer reviews are useless; everyone is unhappy with everything. i just wanna buy something.

There are NO good hard drives, but essentially you get what you pay for. I have 6 drives - 4 of them are G-Drives and three of those are the only drives that have never failed.

Buy a G-Drive if you want an external HD
thanks adam, i think i'll get a g-drive

alternatively you could get two Western Digital HDs for almost the same price, if you're paranoid enough to do a double backup

I have one of those and it pretty much stopped being reliable after the first fortnight.

OWC has external drives that are sort of bulky and ugly, but do not suck

Just bought another 2TB from them yesterday. I have several and they most definitely do not suck.
