Is there not any way to address the ilx bullying?

I mean, look, I get that people think I'm too sensitive about the "race war" accusations. But I've asked time and time again for this to please be dropped and not brought up again. The same ilxors keep bringing it up again and again in completely out of context threads and I'm tired of the mods turning a blind eye to it. I understand there's a sizable contingent here that wants to cultivate of "culture of zings" or whatever it's called this week, but I feel that if someone can point to a specific thing they would like to stop, I think those wishes should be respected. It's clear that 'Flag Post' for those posters that bring up the "race war" thing does absolutely nothing. I feel like the mods are turning a blind eye to this, or in the case of Matt DC today, actively supporting it. Telling me I need to "shut the fuck up" if I want him to do something about it is not solid modding, imho.

I just think that if an ilxor asks for certain insinuations and references to stop, those wishes should be respected. I know there are several ilxors who want to keep allusions to thier irl identity verboten, which is totally fair and valid. I'm confused as to why this can't be the case across the board when someone makes a specific request.

So I guess my question is, will the mods actually do something about this whole "race war" thing by specific posters that keep bringing it up again and again? Or are we really just going to let the bullies run rampant and ignore people's reasonable requestes? (and, fwiw, no matter how ridiculous some people think it is, my request to not be associated with "race war" is pretty fucking reasonable) If the latter is the case, then I'm not sure ilx is worth sticking around for anymore.

I'm not a mod, but I used to play one on tv. I want to dissect what I think happened on the literary clusterfuck thread. (I didn't read the thread in excruciating detail.)

1. The ILX Commentariat convenes on Topic X
2. Topic X is discussed
3. After a few score or few hundred posts, as it is wont to do, the ILX Commentariat expands the discussion to Broad Category A which contains Topic X, as well as Rhetoric and Debate Tactics in discussing all of the above.

4. This happens:

It's this thing you do -- instead of commenting about Topic X, you comment about ILX's debate on Topic X; instead of any opinion on Topic Z, you drop a snide one on ILX's discussion of Topic Z. It's a pretty darned common response from you, and if you can't figure out why people play Whack-a-Mole whenever you pop up in threads doing that, then my sympathy is limited. Advice: (1) get one self-awareness, (2) think before you post, and (3) quit playing Thread Cop.

I really believe that if you had gotten involved in the Alisa Valdes discussion, I mean actually discussing the literary clusterfuck and not ILX's reaction to the literary clusterfuck, and mordy and lagoon and amon and whoever had started that stupid race war shit out of nowhere, you'd have a mod on your side. But if your main contribution to ILX is to constantly remind ILX of how horrible ILX is...dude, zzzzzzzzzz. We know, already.

For the avoidance of doubt - this sort of pile-on is as usual a pretty good showcase for all of ILX's worst qualities. My post was an expression of exasperation with all sides. I do not actually support what anyone's doing to you, but then again you were accusing mods of actually supporting bullying before I even posted on the thread.

There's not that much that can be done, short of banning every single person involved, which is neither necessary nor practical, and I don't think it will be particularly helpful. You too, Jon, were being pretty combative on the thread from the start, and you have your own history of being nasty and poisonous to posters as well, when you're in the mood to be. I know you don't really think you are, but you're as guilty of shitting up that thread as anyone else (and I'm aware it was a clusterfuck before you got involved).

Ultimately, it can't be fun for you to have to go through this every so often, but at the end of the day no one is libeling you really, no one is posting your real name (as far as I'm aware), no one is actually linking you to anything, or making genuine personal attacks. Anyone repeatedly doing this under a real name would find themselves given a sitewide ban pretty fucking quickly. You are not actually being associated with a race war. So many people have been subjected to so much worse on this message board it isn't funny.

I mean I think Lagoon and Amon are broadly speaking terrible posters when they're involved in this sort of thing, and I'm not very fond of you either. But it's exasperating and boring and a complete waste of everyone's time so I'm sticking it back on the autoreplace list.

Now please, next time something like this happens, take a deep breath and get some perspective before flying off the handle.
