Denver's defense played really well. Miller and Ware were relentless. Ware down the stretch seemed to be on Brady nearly every play. I kinda thought NE calling timeout on the fourth down play down in the redzone might have been a bit of a mistake as the D-line had to be gassed after chasing him for the few plays before hand.
AZ like Seattle last week just got cold cocked in the first half. Arizona was not in the game at all. Carolina was also pretty bloodthirsty going for 2 with like 4 to go up 20+ points.
Pretty much got the best offense in football going up against the best defense for the Superbowl. Carolina's D is pretty good too, although they are down a couple of guys in the defensive backfield.

Gronk is also a beast. That guy is just unlike any other TE in football with that size and speed. He was great today.
― earlnash, Monday, 25 January 2016 05:03 (eight years ago) link
Agreed. He might legit be the most dominant player in his position in the league.

I got to think Belichick's love of the two TE setup goes back to his days with the Giants as that is what they ran with Mark Bavaro and Zeke Mowatt with a single back. Both of those dudes were huge although Mowatt was pretty much just an extra offensive lineman as they rarely threw the ball too him. Bavaro was really good though, kind of a proto-Gronk of his day. Never really saw anyone break down Gronk as a blocker but as big as the dude is, I can't see him not being able to handle most linebackers or even some lineman.

Colquitt was also a big part of the Denver win today, as he pinned NE quite a few times really deep in their endzone, a couple on some total long bomb punts.

Panthers early 5-point favorites
― frogbs, Monday, 25 January 2016 15:51 (eight years ago) link
carolina don't seem to ever score less than 30 points. it feels like denver D has to play lights out again or else the panthers are going to win in the 1st half again
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 25 January 2016 15:56 (eight years ago) link
pretty much, plus Denver struggles to even score in the 20's...they're like the 15th best offense in football
― frogbs, Monday, 25 January 2016 15:58 (eight years ago) link
Panthers have this one in the bag, unless Joe Namath gets 50 years younger and suits up for Denver.

he won't show up younger, but he's been known to show up in the bag

feel like we can't discount the possibility of miller and ware completely wrecking shit again but even with that happening yesterday they really could have or maybe even should have lost, and new england's defense didn't even play particularly well. also you'd have to think cam's mobility and strength would neuter the pass rush a bit.
― J0rdan S., Monday, 25 January 2016 21:09 (eight years ago) link
one reason they could tee off was little chance of a ne run offense, that's gone
― wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Monday, 25 January 2016 21:11 (eight years ago) link
just watching the game you could tell it wasn't a conventional approach but it wasn't obvious (to me at least) what denver were giving up to make life so hard for brady. reading about it since it sounds like they just invited NE to run and a team with anything at RB/any kind of run blocking could've basically walked thru the defense. wade just totally nailed it.
NE defense was great outside of that shaky first drive. that drive and the turnovers won that game. on both sides it was top level defense p much choking the opposition offense, the denver D stands out so much because they had to stop a better offense and did it even better.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 25 January 2016 21:25 (eight years ago) link
carolina's run/pass options are a living nightmare for denver imo, i think they can pretty much take miller/ware out of the game
― call all destroyer, Monday, 25 January 2016 21:27 (eight years ago) link
NE had enough easy scoring opportunities in the last 5 minutes of the game that they could have easily won but they got greedy. Also could have easily gone to OT if they hadn't missed the PAT, which was a major choke.
So yeah, the Denver offense did a good job, but the Pats also beat themselves.

DISAGREE
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 25 January 2016 21:35 (eight years ago) link
refs really need to make one intentional grounding call to keep a ragdolled qb 10% honest, that kept ne's drive alive. otherwise, one out of any of the clear IGs would ended that last drive.

Taken from the term photobombing where one spoils a picture by unexpectedly appearing in the frame, Creedbombing is belting out a lyric by the popular ’90s band Creed when no one is ready for it.
