But Roffles was lucky enough to land on a team with playoff level talent. Most first round quarterbacks go to shit teams by definition. Then they are thrown into the mix much too early, only to get their brains smashed out through their ear holes... hello, David Carr. This is probably why a lot of spread quarterbacks wash out in the NFL; they're never given enough time to learn the pro game.

Gus Frerotte is Minnesota's option, which is to say not much of one. I'd probably be sticking with Tavaris Jackson. It's QB, it isn't like you can make a deal at this point to get someone else unless you are getting really desperate and calling old man Vinny.

Police said Marinovich, 38, ran from officers who tried to stop him about 1:15 a.m. Sunday for skateboarding near the Newport Pier boardwalk, where skateboarding is prohibited.
He was found hiding in a carport about 1:30 a.m., police Sgt. Evan Sailor said. After searching Marinovich, police found about one gram of methamphetamine, a metal spoon and a hypodermic needle, Sailor said.

effects:
1. replaces a chump with a chump, nothing gained2. lets receivers off the hook when spotlight should be on them this week3. trashes a whole pre-season of work on offense4. completely undermines the good things about two unlucky defeats5. damages team morale by underscoring that they are being coached by a cretin

It's a panic move 2 weeks into the season. I would have given it a little more time. The guy above who said they are making a waste of their pre-season is OTM, but I think Frerotte would have gotten some extra reps during camp due to the starter being suspect.

KC @ ATL - I'll take Atlanta. "You play to win the game." Oh how far the hyped have fallen.OAK @ BUF - Bills seem pretty solid. Oakland seems a bit more like a sitcom version of a football team like "1st and Ten" than usual. It would be funny if they were having to go to games in a big black and silver bus and they had some old grizzelled guy with a big stoagie driving them around.TB @ CHI - I want the Bears to win. Chucky needs to get checked for putting Griese in charge of the store.CAR @ MIN - I'm going Panthers. Minnesota's coach mumbledy mumble is already playing the C.Y.A. move in week three as his ass is grass if they don't win this year.MIA @ NE - Logic says Patriots, but I could see Miami pulling an upset.CIN @ NYG - Giants are rolling and the Bungles are back. NYG have a pretty sweet early schedule.HOU @ TEN - Houston seemed like they had a bit of everything last year now they seem like they have a bit of nothing. I'm going Titans. Even at his age, Kerry Collins is a pretty decent back up QB at this point.ARI @ WAS - This is a pretty interesting match up, I'll go Washington at home.NO @ DEN - I'm going Broncos as I think they are going to win the AFC West. NO is interesting and this could be a fun game to watch.DET @ SF - Detroit is on the road, so 49ers it is.STL @ SEA - Seahawks look pretty cruddy, but the RAMS look terrible. Seattle at home.CLE @ BAL - I think this is a game Cleveland has to win. I'm going Browns. It will be interesting to see how Flacco does.JAC @ IND - Colts. This game, especially in Indy is usually a pretty brutal game. Two years ago, I swear it was one of the more nasty games I have seen, there was injuries all over the place for both clubs. Fred Taylor usually has a big game against the Colts, but I think Peyton will get a couple of bombs on target.PIT @ PHI - Good and interesting matchup, I feel Eagles in a squeaker.DAL @ GB - Another interesting rematch from last year, I want to take the Pack, but I think Dallas wins it.NYJ @ SD - Boy this game is a lot more interesting than usual, but I think SD is the better club.

KC @ ATL - Atlanta going over .500 this year? signs point to no, but I would assume they can get to .666 for week 3OAK @ BUF - Buffalo looking realTB @ CHI - Chicago looking realer; I like Forte A LOTCAR @ MIN - Panthers; Minnesota fans may begin loud lamentingMIA @ NE - Patriots, but closer than it should be!CIN @ NYG - I've never seen the Giants look this good, but they still lack some killer instinct. I've never seen the Bengals look this bad.HOU @ TEN - Titans surprisingly average offense getting the job done; a 3-0 start doesn't guarantee playoffs, but it sure is putting them in the right directionARI @ WAS - Arizona seems geared to ring up some crazy scores, Washington does notNO @ DEN - What a good looking game! I'm going with Denver, but I can't say either way would surprise me.DET @ SF - I really really don't like the niners so Detroit out of spiteSTL @ SEA - St. Louis is the worst team in the league by far right nowCLE @ BAL - Cleveland or bustJAC @ IND - Colts gettin' healthierPIT @ PHI - I like Pittsburgh to go deep in the playoffs and slow down McNabb a bit in this oneDAL @ GB - Dallas, but under duressNYJ @ SD - Chargers HAVE to win this, right? I mean, right?

Also, this rookie class is bazonkers so far.
This is true every year.
Why the shit would MN open up the playbook for proven veteran / dead end Frerotte and not TJ?
b/c some of those reads are hard at game speed. f'realz. e.g. Shanahan's still protecting Cutler in his play-calls (this is not a bad thing, it just takes an actual month of Sundays before a QB can really start to parse the game.
That said, Trent Edwards has a green light for audibles; TJ did not. Read into that what you will.
Also LOL the Berrian play tru dat.

KC @ ATL - KC might be as miserable as the Dolphins were last year. Falcons. OAK @ BUF - Buffalo is breathing down the Pats' necks. Bills.TB @ CHI - A can't get a read on the NFC South since everyone looks like a .500 team, in other words pretty mediocre. Chi-town. CAR @ MIN - You have put your faith in Gus Freotte. The Suicide Booths are now ready. Panthers. MIA @ NE - How many weeks before Matt Cassel's mediocrity starts to sink the offense? It won't start this week though. Patsies. CIN @ NYG - We always knew the defense was a sinkhole of suck, but now the offense is starting to slide. Giants. HOU @ TEN - Kerry Collins to the rescue! Titans.ARI @ WAS - Arizona is going to win the NFC West. Cards. NO @ DEN - Broncs. DET @ SF - Niners. STL @ SEA - Both teams are disasters, but St. Louis is like Europe after the Black Death. Hawks. CLE @ BAL - I really dislike the Ravens so Browns. JAC @ IND - David Garrard has already thrown more interceptions than he did all last year. Indie. PIT @ PHI - The Game of the Week. Pitt. DAL @ GB - I so hope that Dallas tanks on this one. Packers. NYJ @ SD - The reality of the Farve trade starts to set in and people realize that the Jets are at best an 8-8 team. Bolts.

KC @ ATL - Atlanta. Somehow I think Thigpen will inspire a "Bring Back Grbac" campaign in KC.OAK @ BUF - Despite hating them, I don't see how Buffalo loses this one. Hopefully my picking them jinxes them and they are excommunicated from the league.TB @ CHI - Going with Chicago just cuz it's their home field.CAR @ MIN - Carolina. Gus Frerotte will routinely overthrow his receivers on any routes run greater than 8 yards downfield, as he always does.MIA @ NE - Pats. Even though I'm a diehard Fin fan, maybe picking against them for once will work out in my favor.CIN @ NYG - Giants. Don't feel bad, Cincy, you weren't a good team long enough for the "Bungles" era to be a distant memory. Embrace familiarity.HOU @ TEN - Houston. Somehow I don't think Kerry Collins has as much left in the tank as he showed last week.ARI @ WAS - Arizona gashes Washington's usually stout defenseNO @ DEN - Denver. The stars may just be aligned this year.DET @ SF - San Fran. If Gore gets going, game over.STL @ SEA - Seattle. A team that is better (albeit maybe not much) than their record indicates against a team who has lost two games by an average score of 40-8.CLE @ BAL - The output on the field will resemble someone with Down's syndrome playing Madden, but Baltimore in a probably touchdown less bore. Cleveland is going nowhere this year.JAC @ IND - Indianapolis's offense wakes up for the first time.PIT @ PHI - Philadelphia. Iggles showed a lot of fight against Dallas in the Keystone Kops Bowl.DAL @ GB - Dallas. Somehow I don't think it's Rodger's time to win this one. But soon, it will be.NYJ @ SD - San Diego is too good to go 0-3, and the Jets are hideously overrated.
