Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:38 (fifteen years ago) link

when reheating the next day, here's a pro tip: don't add water, add COFFEE. sounds bizarre but it's really good.

caek, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

damn skippy it sounds bizarre

caek, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm the wire monkey, not the soft monkey (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I will try.

caek, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't ever make any fresh, I just put what's left in the carafe from that morning.

i have made some improvements, dudes! now you can email a recipe, get a printer-friendly version, and comment on recipes.

it's still a long way from what i would ultimately like it to be but i it's at least functional now.

ed's courgette soup is freaking delicious. you can substitute any blue cheese, i would imagine..

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 11:31 (fifteen years ago) link

This is cool, btw. I've submitted a recipe but I'm not sure it's gone through to the database proper.

It's there.

Dead Cat Bounce (Ed), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 12:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Or any green vegetable, pretty much, it is also good with spinach, kale, broccoli etc.

Dead Cat Bounce (Ed), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 12:19 (fifteen years ago) link

3:2:1 - proportion of liquid (stock, usually) to veg to dairy. This is a handy key to lots of soups.

Doghouse O RLY (G00blar), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 12:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I need to a way to get these kinds of all-purpose tips on there - i.e. they're not recipes, more just awesome things to know

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 15:54 (fifteen years ago) link

also cross-linking and collecting

Dead Cat Bounce (Ed), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 16:05 (fifteen years ago) link

The next three things are:

1) clicking on user name should show you their recipes
2) creating favorites/sets
3) creating groups/friend networks

Improving categorization and taxonomy runs underneath all of this

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 22:25 (fifteen years ago) link

2 is halfway done - favorites are there now!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 17 October 2008 11:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Are you going to use one of the open social network API's, such as google's?

Dead Cat Bounce (Ed), Friday, 17 October 2008 12:50 (fifteen years ago) link

i have no idea - what would that get us??

Tracer Hand, Friday, 17 October 2008 15:31 (fifteen years ago) link

A whole bunch of stuff you wouldn't have to code yourself, I think.

Dead Cat Bounce (Ed), Friday, 17 October 2008 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Shindig may kill your wee box though.

Dead Cat Bounce (Ed), Friday, 17 October 2008 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I have this soda bread thing in the oven right now.

caek, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:21 (fifteen years ago) link

10 minutes to go, smells good.

caek, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link

So you can just add lemon juice to milk for that?

Doghouse O RLY (G00blar), Friday, 17 October 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean if you can't find buttermilk.

Doghouse O RLY (G00blar), Friday, 17 October 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Seems to have worked here. Apparently you should use full cream milk and let it stand for like ten minutes. I did that and the milk tasted disgusting, so I figure it worked.

caek, Friday, 17 October 2008 21:33 (fifteen years ago) link

plain white vinegar works, too. about 1 tsbp per 8oz of milk.

lauren, Saturday, 18 October 2008 21:54 (fifteen years ago) link

i made that bread today!! my parents didn't even notice that i was making it, and expressed shock and surprise after dinner when i told them it had come out of the oven like an hour earlier. it is sooo good. i used to actually PAY for it.

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 19 October 2008 01:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I think my bread went OK. It looked like what I see when I GIS soda bread. I think I am just not a soda bread person.

I also made the broccoli soup. That was awesome, if a little salty (presumably due to the stilton).

caek, Sunday, 19 October 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

lol my photo for the soda bread recipe is GIS, i am a total faker. however all mine looks pretty much like that.

my courgette soup wasn't too salty (for me) though i decided to use no cream and it was still very very rich.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

i added my recipe!

caek, Saturday, 25 October 2008 20:46 (fifteen years ago) link

lol

Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (G00blar), Saturday, 25 October 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

oh this looks awesome!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Saturday, 25 October 2008 21:01 (fifteen years ago) link

sorry, site is down ;_;

will be back up at 2pm EST, with caek's fucking sandwich and hopefully a recipe or two from a real actual former palestinian chef who lives in east tennessee!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

getting the balance of stock/stilton right can be tricky, the cream does moderate it. Low salt veg stock or make your own is a good way to go.

something less awful (Ed), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 16:08 (fifteen years ago) link

one month passes...

More improvements for this are here!

I've added a forum for questions and answers, is the main thing

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 13:22 (fifteen years ago) link

The menu options (write a recipe, browse, ask & answer, etc) in the top banner all just lead you back home.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 December 2008 02:40 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm on Firefox 2.0! Just checked again, and yeah, the first four options all lead me to /pumpkin. Only contact, rss, and log out do what their meant to. In the top right corner of the screen it says 'Skip to navigation', but it isn't a hyperlink.

What's wrong with me???

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Thursday, 4 December 2008 10:53 (fifteen years ago) link

caek, Thursday, 4 December 2008 15:21 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah you can! if you go to your recipe and click the EDIT tab, you'll be able to add it

g00b i am attempting to find a versh of FF2 in order to fix the prob you're having - i know WHY it's happening but not WHY it's HAPPENING

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 December 2008 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

I hear you

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Thursday, 4 December 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

i think that was the last thing really driving me crazy.

by the way g00bey, i made your orange soup last night and it was a hit even though i couldn't find fresh sage (which i think is what works best w/it) and even though i forgot to add the honey
