I will probably watch this just because of the writer's strike - there's nothing else on television except horrible reality programming like "Moment of Truth". But I don't know how much I will care -- I stopped watching Lost last season after that ridiculous episode w/Jack and Bai Ling.

The episode in the log cabin with the gay skiing instructor and all the running in and out of different rooms = the pinnacle of US sitcom.

a post is automatically terrible if it involves an equals sign or greater than or less than sign. "critic math," if you will.

Is the person who told me Mad Men isn't worth watching because it's boring, wrong or right? And how the fuck are there 500 new answers?
― free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 10:35 (sixteen years ago)
i don't know what u think is boring but i like mad men a lot. there are 500 new answers because some moron decided to start an argument about whether a tv show based in history is required to highlight all the oppressed peoples of that time.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 11:49 (sixteen years ago)
looooooooooool I've never seen the show or read the thread but at least 3 ppl IMd me yesterday to say omg go look at that MM thread there's some idiot posting nonsense on there and it's bringing the lolz.

melissa has been on this board for years and is not a moron; some of the points she made are good ones, some aren't; it's really kind of irritating that there are now like three threads for people to go 'lol what a moron' in, on top of all the ppl in the thread she posted in going 'lol u moron'
― thomp, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:04 (sixteen years ago)
awwww :-( I feel bad now. Like I said - I didn't read the thread but ppl kept bringing it up yesterday.
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:06 (sixteen years ago)
haha it's none of my business really
anyway aren't 250 of the new answers just ppl gushing about the season premiere?
― thomp, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:07 (sixteen years ago)
all I know about the show is that it's set in the early 60s, it's fairly mannered and the costumes and sets are attractive.
― free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:09 (sixteen years ago)
i would say the person who told you it wasn't worth watching because it was boring was wrong
― thomp, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:13 (sixteen years ago)
k sorry dude i did not see her good points, i just saw a bunch of freshman seminar level bullshit. but i didn't want to open the whole thread for fear of spoilers since i'm way behind on the show.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:15 (sixteen years ago)
xp - basically I've gotten mixed advice from friends - one says its boring, one likes it because of the period costumes and furniture, one likes it because her partner's father worked in advertising in NY at the time, and said it actually was kinda like that.
― free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:16 (sixteen years ago)
i'd say the thing i really like about it (and the reason ppl may think it's boring) is at least w/r/t the first season they do an amazing job keeping the tension at a high level without things ever really blowing up. it feels like in keeping with a more repressed culture that the characters can't even have a proper fight a lot of the time.
beyond that it is well acted/directed/written and i like that period in history and blah blah blah
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 13:34 (sixteen years ago)
just when i thought it might be dying down.........
― velko, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 17:54 (sixteen years ago)
xp - that makes the mixed advice make sense, thanks

I made a joke that he should finish watching it (The Wire) because a lot more people die.
― free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 20:07 (sixteen years ago)
lol i didn't finish the wire (or even come close) because despite placing proper focus on the entire sociopolitical spectrum i thought it was poorly written and acted. clearly my priorities are not in the right place.
