No, it is hard work! I am trying to get a volunteering gig at this one place and I have to go to like two 3 hour long orientations. I'm going to do it but between that and job hunting - argh! She's probably right that it would be a good way to meet people though.

one month passes...

volunteer work is kind of taking over my life

i dont really care esp now that i found out volunteer work counts the same as actual employment when applying for ranger jobs - at least according to the rangers i interviewed with the other day

current shit:

  • organizing a trail cleanup/maintenance day for city/county parks w/ 50 volunteers
  • tutoring refugees in english
  • maintaining 2 smokies trails
  • fixing up/rehabbing a museum by myself in a valley of the smokies - it was abandoned and in disrepair
  • gardening work for knox botanical gardens and arboretum
  • phenology work
  • bear work
  • some possible GIS mapping work coming up?
feel like im leaving something out

i need a job yall

I would like to know more about

bear work

Volunteering tomorrow at the biggest shelter in the city. It's just a one day thing but should be interesting.

yeah not having a 'real job' has totally = increase in my volunteer stuff, even tho I actually have a fair amt of freelance paid work to do too! But I think volunteer stuff is a good way to get perspective on what yr really interested in and cld pos make a living at one day or open up work/$ opportunities, in my experience.

Latest: I am applying to be on the board of a youth health&wellness organization! :)
