Lately I have had the urge to play not Magic: The Gathering but other, less popular trading card games of the nineteen nineties.

Who the fuck made you the all-knowing sultan of cardgames? Maybe if you'd stop spewing shit out of your mouth for more than five seconds, you could do somthing useful with it. Sucking my dick would be a good example of what to do with your newly acquired, shit-free mouth. That sounds pretty good. Suck my dick. Oh, and "authetic" Pokemon cards DO have two lines of text at the top, your obviously referring to the inferior, much gayer, newer series of cards, not made by WoTC (although some of thier later ones switched to a similar format to the new, Nintendo-made ones.)

I@n I used to work for Iron Crown Enterprises! It was my first job as a teenager in the summer of 1983, running the shrink wrap machine. Later I did design work and other stuff. As a result I have a ton of their stuff including the Middle-Earth cards but gaming geeks are few and far between in my town. Lots of dice rolling in that Tolkien game, kind of the opposite of Magic.

El Tomboto, Friday, 12 October 2007 01:09 (sixteen years ago) link

omg SLEEVE!!

I love the middle earth card game. i don't have any maps or region cards anymore, and i kind of forgot how to play. i barely have anything from the later expansions. i found a box of starters at electronics boutique for like $15 when i was in high school. and then a box of "dark minions" boosters even cheaper. that was mostly the extent of my experience with that game. but i recently rebuilt two decks and plan to search at my moms house for more stuff and maps and rulebook.

also, i stayed late at work for half an hour yesterday and played magic.

HI DERE, Friday, 12 October 2007 19:31 (sixteen years ago) link

ian if I am ever in NYC I will bring a couple of decks! I will be in the Hudson Valley area for a coupla days over Thanksgiving week but not in the city, alas. also let me know if you need xerox copies of rules or maps or shit. I don't think I ever played with the region cards, that was an optional thing but I still have a lot of them because they came with the expansion sets.

When I first got those cards ('96 I think) I would set up opposing sets and play a game by myself to study the interactions. My girlfriend at the time came home one day...

her: "You know how I can tell you're really into this?

me: "Uh.. no."

her: "Because you don't have any music on"

Good fans and friends of MECCG!

It has been some time since the last newsletter, sadly there were no major meccg events to report.
but now as winter approaches, our Tookish meccg blood starts to boil again, and the calendar is filled with great gaming opportunities.
And there is other important news as well.

News:

Erratum Proposal:
After long debate and due considerations, the Council of Elrond proudly presents their first official Erratum Proposal to the community.
We would like you to take a good look at the proposal, and then give us your vote.
If the proposal is accepted, the Erratum will be officially used in all Council of Elrond sanctioned tournaments (including Worlds and Lure).
for the proposal, see:
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=103

Dream Card - First Folk:
The DC team has decided to boldly go where no one has ever gone before. There will be new meccg cards!
After many years of designing, play testing, and glueing their home made prints on meccg cards, the team has decided to professionally print the first two sets of dream cards.
This will remain an exclusive project for the meccg community. Anyone who signs in can buy the cards at cost price, but there will be no distribution otherwise.
to know more about this great new project, see:
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1864

G.A.B. White Mithril Team:
Timo Lutter has reactivated the WM team section at the GAB site. If you are into trading MECCG cards, its always good to find trustworthy traders. More infos:
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1915

Events:
The French will hold a well attended tournament "At the Grey Havens", in Lille, from 28-30 September
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=1919

In Finland there will be the (in)famous FinnTroll, from 20-21 October
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1973

The Germans will hold their national championships at Giessen this year, 3-4 November
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=1980

Finally the Swiss meet for their annual Championships at Frauenfeld on 21th October
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=1986

Lure of MECCG XIII: 1. – 3. March 2013. First details are up already
http://www.lureofmeccg.org/

Fallen-wizard Sealed League Cup 2012 (starting on Sep 27th)
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1979

The Pre-release tournament to the Dream Card expansion First Folk has started already.
http://www.councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1965
While joining is no longer possible, of course you can watch the games and join the discussions.

So, hopefully we'll see each other at one of these events, and you will join and support us in the new projects.

there is a new version of richard garfield's post-magic game netrunner, i never played it back in the day but it looks kinda cool, asymmetric gameplay and cheeseball 90s cyberpunk.

really rad lotr card game out thats non-collectible

yeah i really enjoy this, also it is playable solo if all your friends are too cool

Is the new one revised or just a reissue?

it's revised into a "living card game" a la the lotr game, there are like mini-expansions that are the size of an old-school starter deck that all have the same cards. the lotr game is coop, with the players opposing a sort of rudimentary card AI, it works better than it sounds. the netrunner game is still PvP.
