lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:09 (eleven years ago) link

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:18 (eleven years ago) link

the subway is gross tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:18 (eleven years ago) link

i mean its a great system just a lil gross to be inside

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:18 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i phoned my dad to tell him and his reaction was to tell me about the time he was scared riding the subway and the bus to JFK in 1972

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

hah

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

thanks dad!

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:21 (eleven years ago) link

dont worry no bus necessary now theres the airtrain

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:22 (eleven years ago) link

which somehow costs five dollars to ride for three stops

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:23 (eleven years ago) link

well done, caek. i really want to move to nyc but it seems to be impossible visa-wise. a three month holiday (that's how long you can stay, i think) is something i'm considering next year.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:27 (eleven years ago) link

i'm really exciting about writing cheques!

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:28 (eleven years ago) link

i'm really exciting!

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:28 (eleven years ago) link

thanks xxp. yeah 3 months. irish people are eligible for the green card lottery fwiw. also if you arrive on st patrick's day they let you be the vice president.

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:29 (eleven years ago) link

fwiw atlantic ave to 116th st (change at 96) is apparently 33m according to the mta

see this is misleading because you won't live on top of the train station in atlantic avenue or even particularly close, and you will have to wait for the trains, and there will be delays. like the actual train trip might be 33m.

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:30 (eleven years ago) link

tho I know a columbia grad student who commutes from staten island

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:30 (eleven years ago) link

try not to do that at least

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

i'm going to live on top of the train station in atlantic avenue though, maybe you're forgetting that

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:32 (eleven years ago) link

inside target

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:32 (eleven years ago) link

mannequin 2013

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:32 (eleven years ago) link

i was on the subway in 1972, it was magical.

Pope Rusty I (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:33 (eleven years ago) link

your options are living in that target or living in the barclays center, they both have their pluses and minuses

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:33 (eleven years ago) link

buried in the ball pit of chuck e cheese

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:34 (eleven years ago) link

i'm going to live with max, it's all arranged.

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:35 (eleven years ago) link

Irish people are eligible for the green card lottery fwiw.

Yeah, I think the next round is for 2015 entry. The odds aren't as bad as you might think tho.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:36 (eleven years ago) link

im like a 15 minute walk from atlantic

max, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:40 (eleven years ago) link

long commutes are underrated, if you have no transfers or only an across-the-platform transfer its a nice way to read

max, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:40 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that's my plan

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:41 (eleven years ago) link

long commutes are according to science worse than hitler

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:42 (eleven years ago) link

long commutes are the worst, you have like an hour less of your day and you aren't getting paid for it

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:43 (eleven years ago) link

, if you have no transfers or only an across-the-platform transfer its a nice way to read

unless you live on the F and hardly ever get a seat.

Pope Rusty I (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:44 (eleven years ago) link

i will play devils advocate and say a short commute kinda sucks because you cant really get any reading momentum going in 10 min, also the f train does suck

乒乓, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:49 (eleven years ago) link

man, my 10 min commute sure does suck. it sucks a lot, having such a short commute

乒乓, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:49 (eleven years ago) link

let me tell you what sucks, it sucks when your commute is only 10 min long

乒乓, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:49 (eleven years ago) link

walking commute is the best obvs

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:49 (eleven years ago) link

walking commute is living the dream, it only sucks in that you probably won't have it some day

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:51 (eleven years ago) link

i decided i am going to walk today, it takes about 32 minutes... one minute shorter than living on top of atlantic station and going to columbia ; )

乒乓, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:52 (eleven years ago) link

most of my commute is on an overground train so I just look at ilx or blogs, like my post upthread was a commute post

iatee, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:52 (eleven years ago) link

commutes would be 100x better if they had 3g/lte underground like SOME CITIES do, it's true

乒乓, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:53 (eleven years ago) link

you should make yr job pay for yr commute cause you just do the same stuff anyway xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:54 (eleven years ago) link

I have to choose btwn bus, tram or cycle every morning for my 15 min commute it is sheer hell

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:58 (eleven years ago) link

great scads of improving literature

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:58 (eleven years ago) link

one thing i am looking forward to: i have a big backlog of 20th c history books to read which i've been uncomfortable to read in the former national socialist republic

caek, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 13:59 (eleven years ago) link
