Thank you, that gave me some much-needed roffling!

Sara R-C, Friday, 26 September 2008 05:47 (fifteen years ago) link

when will you ultimately be done with overwhelmingness, sr-c?

mookieproof, Friday, 26 September 2008 06:06 (fifteen years ago) link

lol i opened my first american bank account last saturday at WaMu and now it is bust

your ass is (Rubyredd), Friday, 26 September 2008 06:08 (fifteen years ago) link

wamu's bank in chelsea nyc was decked out like a coffee bar. fucken deserved to fail.

mookieproof, Friday, 26 September 2008 06:12 (fifteen years ago) link

overwhelmingness (i.e. this class) ends the week before Thanksgiving. We start another class after that, but fewer credits spread out over more time... plus it's ob/sexuality, so easier material than constant pathophysiology.

I can't sort out the politics of any of the bailout stuff... honestly I'm just WTF about it. Major point to me is still that our "MBA President" led us to this.

Sara R-C, Friday, 26 September 2008 06:37 (fifteen years ago) link

morning, Sara.

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 06:43 (fifteen years ago) link

So I have been thrown out by the customer (we appreciate your work personally but the fact you haven't been able to get this working in 2 years we're off to buy something else). So now good things are happening. Have bought some yarn at the awesome yarn store, I'm waitlisted for the earlier flight home and have 3 hours free boozing in the lounge if I don't succeed in that and my sister's birthday party this evening in a club with a bowling alley and awesome cocktails. (I can trust my sister on this one as she has the same cocktail trinity as me, manhattan, old fashioned, negroni).

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 13:14 (fifteen years ago) link

What did you folks do in Alaska? (and what kind of yarn did they have?)

Peanuts taste like peanut butter (Susan), Friday, 26 September 2008 13:28 (fifteen years ago) link

wow, ed, what a trip!
so your bosses do not depend on you to save the account when this happens? that's kind of awesome.
i am gonna drink the hell out of a negroni at some point this weekend i think!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Friday, 26 September 2008 13:35 (fifteen years ago) link

My bosses kind of sent me on a suicide mission they knew the dealer was angling to sell something new in there. So I am back in the lounge and the prognosis on me getting on the early flight is not good and they do not have complete negroni fixings in here.

Also boingo is being severely flakey and kicking me out of the internet repeatedly.

susan i just went to check it out in dec 2003. i wanted to go to fairbanks but couldnt quite afford it so i went to anchorage for a week instead. didnt see any yarn. i spent my time horseriding, walking through a graveyard where the headstones were just peeking about the snow, looking at weirdass malls, walking the streets and laughing and the women jogging down the street at 8am in high heels while its was god knows what below freezing and as dark as midnight. oh and a aurora borealis sightings from my midnight flight out to new orleans. no moose though. only tracks.

wau awesome

i am the small cat (HI DERE), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link

That is awesome, it nice when things come together.

Yarn, I got some scratchy norwegian 3 ply in traditional (red white an dark blue) colours to make this with, but now I'm not sure if I want to pay $40 for the pattern book.

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah now i just have to MAKE THEM. got all the paper and tools and stuff, have done about 8 mock-ups... but i'm secretly freaking out! ppl are paying for these and i want them to look great! or no one will ever buy my stuff again and i will have to work at my shitty poo job forever!

your ass is (Rubyredd), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Ed, what are you planning to make?

Enjoy the day off, J. :)

Peanuts taste like peanut butter (Susan), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:42 (fifteen years ago) link

with the instarsia and everything? Nice.

Peanuts taste like peanut butter (Susan), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

RR has a day off. I have to prep for all-day class tomorrow. Am seriously thinking about not reading the textbook anymore and just studying prof's power points.

BUT - RR - enjoy your day! :)

PS - Ed, Susan - are you both knitters? I didn't realize we could have an ITR knitting thing. I have been working on the same project for 2 years... I blame school.

Sara R-C, Friday, 26 September 2008 15:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Ma nu jawb is hurting my brian. Talk of yarn is zennifying. I could totally fall for a girl who would lavish me with knitwear.

ShNick (Upt0eleven), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Indeed, but you are likely to get lots of girls if you can lavish them with knitwear.

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:53 (fifteen years ago) link

i remember my BFF decided to take up knitting and the goal for her first project was a scarf. this dragged on for so long that she ended up sewing the sides together and making one legwarmer.

Bright Future (sunny successor), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:57 (fifteen years ago) link

My job is quite conducive to getting things done knitting wise, I have a lot of sitting around in airports, hotels, planes etc. It is quite a meditaive passtime and I can do it watching the TV.

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 15:58 (fifteen years ago) link

You are all making me envious (sunny too!). Ed is the cleverest for luring dates with knitwear. Wow!

Sara R-C, Friday, 26 September 2008 16:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, TBH, my lady got me into (back into after 20 years I guess) knitting.

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 16:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I tried knitting when I was much younger for about a month before deciding that it really wasn't something I wanted to do unless I one day magically grew a vagina.

(Instead, I began to pursue the manly art of ACTING!)

i am the small cat (HI DERE), Friday, 26 September 2008 16:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Well if you ever magically grow a vagina, you are welcome to knit at my house any time, Mr. Thespian.

Sara R-C, Friday, 26 September 2008 16:08 (fifteen years ago) link

I have grown a vagina on my elbow, all thanks to knitting.

Guys, they ran out of gin so I had to mix gin with vodka, is this like playing bass through a guitar amp?

I am not drunk sufficiently constantly (Ed), Friday, 26 September 2008 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link

incidentally Christopher Blix Hammer went to london and got so drunk he bought this mother's ruin recipe to make in norway.

haha that reminds me of a college drinking story:

We were having a party senior year, so my roommates and I went out and bought a shit-ton of alcohol. One roommate bought himself a bottle of peach schnapps for later consumption that got intermingled with the booze for the party. When people began to show up, they went straight for the schnapps and started making themselves fuzzy navels. My roommate quickly discovered this and hid his schnapps before everyone could drink it.

Another friend of ours had volunteered to act as bartender but was running late, so he missed the whole schnapps controversy. By the time he got himself set up to mix drinks, the lights were dimmed and people were tipsily walking up to him asking for fuzzy navels. He looked around and saw no peach schnapps, so he grabbed a beer cup, filled it with ice, gin and vodka and said, "Here you go!"

The devastation was amazing. We had people huddled underneath the sink crying, people attempting to make out on the dance floor and MISSING, numerous pukers who managed to hold it in until about 10 feet after leaving our dorm room... Such good times.

gah plane is late, only chrome hoof and Christopher Blix Hammer can get me through this.

more good news:

when the chapbook comes out, it's getting reviewed in Chiron, one of the top five small press mags in the country!

this thread has taught me that dan has never magically grown a vagina, but it is still possible that he has grown one through the use of science.

i'll post pics of the two editions once they're done.

the first edition of 50 (20 going to contributors) will be hand sewn into paper wraps (got this really nice textured grey green paper) with the title ('A Common Thread') letterpressed onto a piece of arches or rives (friend is doing this for us) and pasted down. in the back you'll find an envelope containing 20 scraps of weird/unusual/pretty paper which each have a poet's signature. there's and intro from me and jordan, and also one from the 'proprietor' of the bukowski forum (the poets are all members, this is the site where j-dawg and i met), he's one of the wittiest, sharpest dudes ever.

then there's a 'tuxedo' edition, which is limited to 5 copies: these are presentation copies for a small number of ppl who've been good to us. they're going to be in paper wraps made from really cool black textured paper, with fancy tissue endpapers.

and there you have it.

the type of poetry we're doing: not flowery stuff. more like raymond carver, narrative stuff, realist, blah blah etc etc.

This is all rather good, I particularly like your decriptions of the bindings, as a binder (probably ought to say former) I can appreciate the work that goes into hand binding a volume.
