wilter, i think you were probably funny and pleasant and always hungry.

hi tehresa!

estela, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 04:49 (fifteen years ago) link

hi estela!

tehresa, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 04:50 (fifteen years ago) link

now i want to know what horton is.

estela, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 04:53 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah she said it's related to jazz but not sure.

tehresa, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 04:54 (fifteen years ago) link

i hoped it was a lumbering around like elephants dance class.

estela, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 04:58 (fifteen years ago) link

lol

tehresa, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 05:03 (fifteen years ago) link

omg that would be AWESOME. I want to go to that sort of dance class.

All I can think of is modern dance dude Erick Horton, whose name I might be mangling. But I don't think that is a technique.

It is $5 to go to this "hip hop" class. Which is pretty cheap. Plus if we can just walk in and take the class, that is awesome.

(no problem about the "h;" my mother used to do it sometimes, too - and she's the one who gave me the name WITHOUT the "h!")

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 05:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Now I'm all paranoid that I'm making modern dancer Eric Horton up. Hmmmm

Going to have to sleep on that. 'Night all!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 05:22 (fifteen years ago) link

hi sara, sleep well.

estela, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 05:24 (fifteen years ago) link

* Lester Horton - choosing to work in California (three thousand miles away from the center of modern dance - New York), Horton developed his own approach that incorporated diverse elements including Native American dances and modern Jazz. Horton's dance technique (Lester Horton Technique) emphasises a whole body approach including; flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness to allow freedom of expression.

from wiki. apparently he was ailey's teacher, which would explain his technique being taught at the ailey center. the classes there are like $16, which i thought was cheap, but $5! woah! you can also get a card good for like 10 or 25 classes at discounted rate. i might have to drop in on some. i haven't taken dance since my parents made me quit after 5th grade so i will likely be a disaster.

tehresa, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 05:33 (fifteen years ago) link

hey sup itr i am drinking molson canadian and going to sleep so i can get up bright and early so a nice man from the rotorooter company can tell me that together we can work out an agreement with my house in which water is allowed to leave it instead of taking up permanent residence.

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 07:16 (fifteen years ago) link

if this is not possible i am putting a pool in my basement, thus everyone wins.

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 07:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Sara, are you Sah-ra or Sair-ah?

Mark C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Sair-ah - although it sure looks odd that way!

Good luck with your basement, John. That sucks. (Although I'm all for the pool idea, provided you keep a lifeguard on hand for yourself of course)

tehresa - THANK YOU, YES. *Lester* Horton. How mortifying that I forgot, especially since the Alvin Ailey company is my favorite one to watch. You can take classes at the Ailey Center? WOW. Also, $5 is cheap, but remember it's just some storefront operation in a rural town...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 12:48 (fifteen years ago) link

And hey - good morning, everyone. It is way too early to be up!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 12:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, wtf are we doing to our brains!!

(spect this link has been elsewhere but it's new to me)

Mark C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 13:33 (fifteen years ago) link

That's crazy.

My French suXors, but it looks almost like it's saying that it's fake underneath, though? (Mark C, help me out here!)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, it's a fake, but I laughed :)

Mark C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 14:34 (fifteen years ago) link

It is totally funny, but I kind of wanted it to be true. ;_;

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 14:40 (fifteen years ago) link

i want it to be true too. a lot.

lxy, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 15:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I want to believe.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I want coffee

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Yum.

I want some, too, but only if I get to stay inside in the air conditioning.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I would also like to know why Land's End just sent a "Back to School" clothing catalog. I guess it fits with Xmas starting in August, but it just seems a bit early.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:16 (fifteen years ago) link

i wanted to expound upon my trip to california, and give wilter job interview advice, and thank people for expressing sympathy in regards to personal euro 2008 woes, and a bunch of other stuff, but even this new, new itr thread moves too fast for me. i simply cannot keep up

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I would like to hear about all of that! Sorry we are sooooo fast. (Are we?)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I want to stop having minor symptoms suggestive of GERD

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

That does not sound fun.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I have coffee now

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

all is once again right with the world

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

well, except for the fact that i have to hire a plumber to install some thing our standpipe that should have already been there that isn't ;_;

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

after which i have to pay the nice man from the rotorooter peoples to come back here and do the thing he couldn't do today because we didn't have the thing in the standpipe what we need and should already be there but isn't.

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, I have no idea what a standpipe is, but it reeeeaaaallly reminds me of It and Pennywise the Clown. But I'm sure that you're perfectly safe.

Dammit, give me some of your coffee, though. I have none! ;_;

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, in a few minutes I am going to have to go deal with a family that I have managed to avoid for almost a full year, even though they live in town. All good things must come to an end.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

ugh, that sucks, tomboto

thanks for your spirit of solictude, Sarah

yes, you guys do move FAST here

in short, bay area visit was awesome; ruby, yeah, you will enjoy oakland and its surrounds heartily; and i wish i would be there when you arrive, but i will not be (but i still want to hook you up w/some of my friends there); i slept 11 hours last night; and thankfully my hypnagogia impinging on waking consciousness which i complained about on friday has been allayed by sleeping properly;

wilter, is yr job interview tomorrow? don't fret; just try to enjoy the experience. lord knows, historically-speaking, anyhow, i hate job interviews, but it might help to keep in mind that the ppl doing the interviewing are oftentimes as freaked-out about it as the interviewees are...also remember that a great percentage of the ppl that they interview are likely to be clueless fuckwads of one variety or another, and if you are reasonably articulate/intelligent/personable, as i gather that you are, then you will comport yourself just fine...again, just try to enjoy it-- seriously. you will be having a conversation with someone about a potential career move; no need to freak out about it or clamp down upon yourself. ppl are ultimately looking for someone that they would feel comfortable working along side of...ultimately it's not about some harsh overriding judgement upon yr entire life or personal presentation...smile, relax, and be semi-detached-- if you have any enthusiasm towards the job that you are going for, then take that with you, and allow it to override any nerves-related hesitancy or tentativeness. also, ppl in general, almost w/o exception are looking for you to be happy and succeed; so if there is any creeping paranoia factor eating at you, then maybe allow the former to sink in somewhere

the dutch lost on saturday, and granted, i am still sad about that...but, BUT, my perennial super-faves the germans, who everyone seems to hate b/c they claim they are boring (which is sooo not true, esp. as tournaments advance, and they proceed to bring out the sparkly teutonic magic) are going to take this entire thing, so, yeah).

in short, i couldn't be better. for the most part.

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:48 (fifteen years ago) link

also, Sarah, please never again encourage me to post, or else ^^ borderline novella stuff will ensue

i avoided all manner of family to the best of my ability for half a decade, but since having been forced to confront them, i feel xxxtimes more mentally healthy than ever before. i can't pretend to know whatever circumstances you're referring to in terms of family stuff, but, sometimes there is space for redemptive stuff of sorts. just sayin'.

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

hi people i'm back

jergins, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link

i went to a funeral and got poisoned by lunchmeat and met a cute girl at a yard sale and heard a rattlesnake while hiking

jergins, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:10 (fifteen years ago) link

wow, that's downright poetic!

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, now you all are moving too fast for ME!

dell - I'm envying your Bay Area trip - and RR moving there! And your job interview advice is good, too. (Good luck wilter!)

The family I avoided for yet another day (RAH!) is in NO WAY related to me. They are just awful, although they do make for entertaining stories. (One day the "father" of the family leaned over to me conspiratorially and said that he didn't think people without kids should be able to vote, and didn't I agree. WACKOS, and not in a good way).

jergins - uh... hope you're recovered from being POISONED and also congrats on meeting a cute girl AND the rattlesnake not seeing you!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

xp This family also represents the most unbelievably bad parenting I've ever witnessed. (Although it is nice to see that I could be doing worse...)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:26 (fifteen years ago) link

i wish i had this awesome and hilarious hospitality-themed note from my friend that i stayed with in oakland, but in lieu of that i present this souvenir from a night of misadventure:

"IN CASE: HI DELL! YOU ARE AT X'S HOUSE (PHONE NUMBER) (IN CASE YOU WANDER OFF)

YOU ARE SAFE! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AT, YOU ARE AT XXX JACKSON ST, OAKLAND"

also, I met some guy named "Trouble", who spontaneously gave me a 20 dollar bill during the course of one evening. This took place after hanging out at some Belgian beer bar that is owned in part by some former member of "drunkcore" band Gang Green. I don't even know...

among other things, my friend stuffed an enormous melon into the hood of my sweatshirt while we were drinking at some place next to a produce market; and I drank delicious exotic beers, and partook of dispensary-procured northern california high test cheeba, which is a rarity for me; and I got to spend time with friends who I've not seen in over a year and a half, and went to the beach and and got to prowl around the marin headlands and wander around precipitous cliffs overlooking the ocean. No rattlesnake encounters (nor mountain lions or coyotes), but, we did encounter a deer, and some quails. It cleaned my head out...

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:28 (fifteen years ago) link

ha, ok, Sarah; after re-reading yr post, I realized that you were likely talking about a family that you didn't necessarily share blood with...anyhow, good luck with all of that!

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:28 (fifteen years ago) link

It's distinctly possible that they were asked not to return to the camp after the first day due to their kid's behavior. Then again, the kid might just have had a huge fit and they might have decided to keep him home. Seriously, they never, EVER say "no" to this kid or intervent to stop him when he's not behaving. With predictable results.

I'm just happy for an extra day of not having to make excuses for not making playdates for our kids to play together.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:36 (fifteen years ago) link

xp what a fun trip you had! I am jealous. We're going to Michigan next week, but that's pretty dull compared to the Bay Area. Food's not as awesome, either.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

wow

well, just to get out of town is always unbeatable, i think.

and yeah, in retrospect i'm actually jealous of myself, to be honest, if that makes any sense!

the guilt-complected and super-neurotic part of me which rears its head from time to time is even okay with it, b/c i can compare it to enough seemingly interminable bummer periods in the past such that i am now feeling comfortable with some, "omg", strictly hedonistic/pleasure-oriented experiences in my life from here on out. thank goodness for that

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey, I'm jealous of the trips I've taken to SF area - why can't I go back in time and do that again?! So it makes total sense. Also, if you have hedonistic/pleasure-oriented stuff you can do, I say go for it. I rarely get to do that these days and someone should be doing it!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Also I am now wearing ridiculous black yoga pants and a black top and am going to leave for the "hip hop" dance class shortly. If you don't hear back from me, you will all know that I probably died of embarrassment.

Or possibly I've fallen and I can't get up.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:54 (fifteen years ago) link

or you will thoroughly enjoy yourself. i would stake a bet on that

dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, it was fun. I admit it. I especially like the Minnesotan way the teacher said "oh jeez" multiple times.

I am now ready to eat a LOT of food.
