You've handled the nap but what are you going to do about the ZOMBIES

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

What kind of self-respecting zombie would eat a yogurt-eating hippy like me? They'd have to be pretty desperate.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

but you are made of cookies!!!

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Good point. I'd better hide.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:52 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm taking a package of Twizzlers with me, but leaving a trail of cookie crumbs going the other directions. I WILL FOOL THE MONSTERS

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

only the cookie monsters

omar little, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Cookie cookie cookie starts with C

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:00 (fifteen years ago) link

ack phone call delayed bc they are having some sort of craziness going on. now i have to wait for call back in 30 min or so... eeeek!

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link

I love that Cookie Monster song.

Also "If Moon Were Cookie."

I have a whole Cookie Monster cd on my iPod.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I never pegged you as a metal fan!

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I hide it well.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link

so my boss informally presented me with a job opportunity i was not expecting, but that (a) involves a pay raise and (b) involves benefits. i would like to take it, but a coworker of mine has been doing work in the department where the promotion is presented and is (probably) better suited and will be crushed when he does not receive it. i am not /dependent/ on the job, though it would be nice to receive the promotion. i am unsure whether to pursue it. can i do it in good conscience?

remy bean, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 02:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh I have no idea. Has the coworker been there longer than you?

Guess what? My Internets are slowly starting to work again. So exciting!!!! Except I don't want to get too excited; my ISP may just be having an accidental evening of mostly working.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:29 (fifteen years ago) link

coworker has been around for two years longer than me.

remy bean, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmmmmm. Any chance this person has declined being promoted for some reason? (maybe?)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah if they deserve it so much why is it being offered to you?
clearly either your boss is awful or they aren't promotable.
if you take it, you may be being a dick to them, if you don't take it, you're definitely being a dick to your boss.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean if you're in a position to question the management's decision-making ability in this matter then you owe it to the organization to get on the fast track to management so you can make better decisions.

remy on the job

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:39 (fifteen years ago) link

that is a good and potentially ego-saving way of looking at it, tom. i guess i will wait for the formal offer before i decide anything.

remy bean, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm inclined to agree with that assessment.

UGH, Facebook still useless to me. At least I can look at my Netflix queue again.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Remy, if they want you to do the job instead of other dude then they a) consider you a better bet and b) don't think the other dude is the best choice. If you turn it down then they'd be promoting other dude unwillingly - or of course they'll promote/hire a third party and you'll both miss out.

It will almost always be the case that someone misses out in cases like this. You, however, have clearly earned the promotion by being better at your job than other dude. It's a reward to you, not a slap to the other guy. Turning it down would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

(though of course it does you credit that you have moral concerns)

Mark C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 10:37 (fifteen years ago) link

what he said. also - how close/friendly are you with the other guy? there may be some discomfort/tension at first, but it will eventually blow over i'd bet.

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 12:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Remy, if you want it, take it. While it's good that you're such a thoughtful person passing over something that's good for you in that situation is a little too alturistic .

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 13:31 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf dude, TAKE THE JOB

ALWAYS TAKE THE JOB (unless it involves messy killing) (and even then it depends on the $$$)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

For enough money, Dan will engage in messy killing, and also cleaning up after messy killing.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, I've been having minor hysterics at my computer reading the "one hundred minor embarrassments" thread. Especially any of it that involves Dan's parents.

So thanks, remy, for starting that one. I'm just sorry I didn't see it when it started!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:01 (fifteen years ago) link

So last night Ed from London, his girlfriend Erica, my friend Heina and I had a great meal at a Mexican spot near campus. Ask Ed about the flan when you all see him at the end of the month.

Oh and BLACK B and Fluffy Bear are deputized by me to introduce Ed to the wonders of local beer, hooch and other spirits, as he has a deep and abiding interest in these matters depending on where he visits. As one ought to have.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:16 (fifteen years ago) link

arghhhh boss' neighbor borrows car. leaves note it is in spot that is good til tues am. being that i don't get here til 10, i assume it's in one of the spots that expires at 11:30. went to move it a min ago and it was in a 'no parking 9-10:30 spot' and has a ticket. oooh that's just gonna make his return SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

maybe this will lead him to let me leave before the 2 weeks are up...

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:37 (fifteen years ago) link

but wtf i am not a valet!

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

lollll. i just talked to the nicest lady in minnesota, though!

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

i never met a Minnesotan I didn't like.

anyone want to go to my next interview for me? I'm tired of being friendly and engaging and interesting and enthusiastic. None of those attributes are very "me".

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:14 (fifteen years ago) link

"We are looking for a contemptuous asshole here at Scumfuck Insurance."

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmm, insurance doesn't really do it for me. Are Scumfuck by any chance involved in any other contemptuous fields?

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:24 (fifteen years ago) link

good morning itr

i has to go sit in the social security office of oakland today w/ lots of crazy people for probably several hours. then i have to go to berkeley on my own and hand in a job application.

also: when we got home yesterday there were about 20 police cars and a sealed-off area just one block from where we live. apparently there had been a dude on the loose with a gun.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:33 (fifteen years ago) link

we're thinking about moving maybe soon

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha. sorry. my eyes... they just shot right to it. oh man i missed the police bit. sorry!!!! that is scary :( we had police helicopters and a swat team outside our window once as a guy had tried to shoot a cop at the bodega on the corner. eeeeks!

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Good lord you guys are all having serious Mornings.

Glad everyone is still okay...

Ned, I want to hear more about that flan.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:07 (fifteen years ago) link

(Now how crass is that? Someone talks about a crazed gun-toting nut in their neighborhood and I want to hear about custard.)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:10 (fifteen years ago) link

mmm flan. i am hungry. there was a chick on my train this morning with a chocolate croissant that i kind of wanted to jump her for. she was eating it so slowly to taunt everyone.

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:11 (fifteen years ago) link

omg chocolate croissant sounds so good right now

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

mmmm crazed gun-toting nuuuuuuuut.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

um, k it is lunch time! hahaha. i am going out for mexican tonight though, so i think it might be a salad day.

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link

flan salad.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

The flan is above and beyond description. It was THAT good. Get Ed to try and describe it for you, he might find the words.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

SO creamy, caramelly, not in any way gelatinous like bad flan can be, thick, unctuous tasty goodness.

Ed, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

There, what he said.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:54 (fifteen years ago) link

okay, so flan = creme caramel.

NOMERIFFIC

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:55 (fifteen years ago) link
