I see Dan's day was also brightened.

Sara R-C, Monday, 8 December 2008 23:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I continue to work on this endless clinical prep. Blah.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 05:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, going to bed now, because if I don't I'm afraid I will not thaw out again, ever. I look forward to the 2 hours of daylight we'll have tomorrow...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:30 (fifteen years ago) link

the "transition team" askers-of-hard-questions are showing up at my office tomorrow morning. almost annoyed I won't be there. fingers x'd for a bloodbath.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Sorry you're missing it! I think...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:50 (fifteen years ago) link

goddamn . . .I hate coming back to work after therapy. I've got to start going at the end of the day. I just feel way too introspective. . bruised. Productivity is impossible.

I'm taking my students to lunch at noon and then am leading a huge meeting at two that I must get ready for. This sucks.

La Push It (Susan), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

That sounds altogether too stressful, Susan. Especially the leading a "huge meeting" part.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm just trying to get clinical prep done. I meant to sleep more today but the two hour late start for the kid's school threw off the entire morning. Stupid cold will not go away.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey nurse-in-training, is it normal to crave salt when you're nauseated?

I usually do well when leading meetings but am always anxious beforehand. Today is the first meeting of a workgroup to evaluate other options for publishing our paper on the web. I have to present my ideas and a timeline to all the editors, advisers etc. In general I think the timeline is crap and will be amazed if we pull it off. Or if I can, rather. We'll see if I'm still here by then. . .

La Push It (Susan), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmmmmm - I don't know if it's "normal" to crave salt when nauseated unless you're maybe hyponatremic (have too much water, not enough electrolytes in your system). Does this happen to you often? Honestly, the only time I've craved anything while nauseated, I was pregnant, and then all bets are off for cravings and nausea. (So... ???? Any chance you could be expecting?) One other thought - some endocrine disorders cause major salt cravings - Addison's Disease is one.

I'm sure you'll be fine with your projects for the day. I totally understand your anxiety. I do NOT sleep before clinicals, even if the clinical is easy and fun (like this past weekend's was). Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Anecdote about Addison's Disease to liven up your afternoons: one of my classmate's sisters was diagnosed with this when she was a kid. The girl craved salt so much that she would snack on bouillion cubes.

(yum?)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:23 (fifteen years ago) link

I often (like this morning) eat the little salt packets you get at fast-food places.

if I was pg then I would sue Mirena.

La Push It (Susan), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:30 (fifteen years ago) link

this is odd bc my friend and i were discussing last night how annoying it is when people oversalt foods. it drives me crazy to see someone salt their food before they taste it! also... have you looked at sodium content in soup?! ridic! that shit will kill you.

very quotatious (tehresa), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:34 (fifteen years ago) link

okay which thread was the infamous "ILE yells at nabisco for presalting" thread

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:35 (fifteen years ago) link

it drives me crazy to see someone salt their food before they taste it!

It does me as well although I usually salt everything I eat anyway.

La Push It (Susan), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm saving that thread for when I get really annoyed with writing out this prep and paper nonsense.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:56 (fifteen years ago) link

btw, you should see the amount of salt and butter my FIL puts on foods. It's insane (not to mention inedible for anyone else; I do NOT let him butter anything for me anymore, omg). The crazy part is that he continues after angioplasty! (Also: half and half on breakfast cereal. I can't get over that one. UGH)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 19:58 (fifteen years ago) link

that is just crazy

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 20:06 (fifteen years ago) link

It goes beyond crazy; it is actually kind of nauseating.

I'm not joking when I say that I buy skim milk when we visit and I get looked at is if I'm somewhat dim when I drink it.

(Then there is the fact that they buy whole milk for drinking, but they don't actually ever drink it, so whenever someone wants some they wind up with a glass full of chunky milk...)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

steak is the only thing i ever put salt on

but i refuse to eat unsalted cashews

mookieproof, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 21:52 (fifteen years ago) link

oh yeah, salted almonds >>>>> unsalted almonds

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link

well, unless the almonds are dipped in dark chocolate, which is obv. the best way to eat them

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link

salt AND chocolate. yum.

La Push It (Susan), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 22:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I was just eating dark chocolate covered pretzels a few moments ago. So - YES!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 23:00 (fifteen years ago) link

It's basically all salt and sugar and butter at my house right now because it's December and the Xmas goodies start to outpace how fast we can possibly consume them pretty fast. And yet I am still planning to bake more cookies next week. 'Tis the season to gain lipids...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

salt and butter are my favorite foods.

Maybe it's not so bad, you know, if you are enjoying the boullion cubes.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 01:36 (fifteen years ago) link

(Is there any odd anecdote that won't lead to an even odder one coming from John? I'm just not sure. Also, I thought his favorite food was booze. So confused now.)

i got a pay raise - my second one in only 3 months of working at this dumb job!

Hey, congratulations! Even if the job is dumb, at least you're making more money than before and not less. That's better than most of the U.S. these days!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 06:17 (fifteen years ago) link

way to go!

it is snowing in texas!?

very quotatious (tehresa), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 07:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Yay, J! That's quick for a raise.

No snow per se, but it did rain and was hovering near freezing last night. I had to scrape some slushy ice off my window this morning. And the high yesterday was 81! Schizophrenic weather. . .

La Push It (Susan), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow, that's like Minnesota spring...

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 16:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh, ITR, stop being so damn quiet. It's SPOOKY.

You're alive, too!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 11 December 2008 06:33 (fifteen years ago) link

(based on history, I basically read everything TOMBOT writes in a cynical way. HABIT. Actually I'm somewhat terrified of your getting raises so fast when it is almost impossible to get a job anymore)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 11 December 2008 06:34 (fifteen years ago) link

do they not sing of our glorious meritocracy in your towns? must be a dc thaaaaaaannnng

TOMBOT, Thursday, 11 December 2008 06:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Sometimes I think I deserve my 4.0 because all I ever do is study, and other times I think it is absurd because some of the nonsense I've had to do is literally find citations in my nursing texts for stuff like "putting non-skid slippers on a patient is a safety measure."

Sara R-C, Thursday, 11 December 2008 06:37 (fifteen years ago) link

So what I'm saying is that RR's raise and TOMBOT's personality are all about meeeeeee, apparently.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 11 December 2008 06:37 (fifteen years ago) link

gah, now that I have stuffed both feet down my throat, I'd better go to sleep so that I can wake up tomorrow and do it again.

good night, ITR! <3<3<3

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Yesterday was very quiet here and yet I still accomplished nothing. Three-day weekend so I'm going to try to be diligent and really bust some stuff out.

La Push It (Susan), Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Wahoo, I just cancelled my MySpace account for good. I promised myself I would yet I twitched a little. How long? Six, seven years? Actually Ed was the one who first invited me over there from Friendster. Everyone was still skeptical then. I think Tila Tequila was one of my first friends.

Don't laugh if you've already walked away. It takes me awhile to shed old skins.

La Push It (Susan), Thursday, 11 December 2008 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link

I walked away but never deleted my old account. I bet it's spam central now.
