Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Could the MN portion of this board explain again why this man is popular in some areas?

I don't think you're asking the right Minnesotans, dude.

Okay, now I want that dog. And to make Dan and John sing.

I could ask my parents; I think they like him.

I'm sure that mine do, but I'm not going to ask why. Based on their emails, it is because there is an "R" after his name.

Once upon a time Coleman was DFL and I think he got a lot of Reagan Dems when he ran against the ghost of Wellstone.

It looks like she's saying "Squeeee," which wouldn't surprise me.

I'm pretty sure that's Michelle Bachman, the R that represents the St. Cloud area. I really don't like that woman.

I want secrets, too.

I would take Al Franken any day over Norm Coleman. Make of that what you will.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 17:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, now when I open this thread up I immediately see a photo of Norm Coleman and Michelle Bachmann. SERIOUSLY NED, WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 21:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, it IS getting close to Halloween.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 21:42 (fifteen years ago) link

If you lived closer, I'd be walking to your house to wake you up as soon as I had the inevitable Norm-related nightmare. But cruel fate is protecting you.

BUT the next two days feel too short. Too much to read for Thursday night and kids home after noon tomorrow for MEA weekend. So how I'm supposed to cram all this info into my head with them on my hands I have no idea.

But I'm going to go work out my aggressions on my treadmill and then get into POWERSTUDYMODE!!!

There are no cinnamon buns here and no coffee. SO SAD.

But since I just spent 10,000 years reading about ulcerative colitis, this is probably for the best. (it's annoying when John is right, but there it is.)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 06:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm going to bed now, but I am dreading the Norm Coleman/ulcerative colitis mash-up nightmare lurking just below the surface of sleep...

MEA weekend: Minnesota Education Association. It's the annual state teachers' convention. Also a happy autumnal time of year when parents decide it's fun to go to another distinctive MN city for a vacation. So thanks Mom for Mantorville/Rochester jaunt and Duluth trip spent in a hotel room watching all the TV about Reagan getting shot in realtime, but with pool breaks.

jane hussein lane (suzy), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 08:47 (fifteen years ago) link

mmm, cinnamon buns. I'm having an apple for breakfast. :(

Yesterday I was talking to a co-worker and found out his wife was a school pyschologist. It was a like a light bulb went off in my head. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to go to grad school for, maybe a MA in English teach community college/lecture, public affairs, social work and become a therapist. But the school pysch thing never occurred to me. Do you any of you know anyone who's done this?

You know I'm a G 'cause I got a gmail (Susan), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 13:10 (fifteen years ago) link

this seems stressful! but kudos to you if you do it! also, pls to not be like the shitty social worker i went to at my school's mental health services who basically told me he couldn't help me, that i wasn't trying hard enough, and that i should start taking antidepressants.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 13:48 (fifteen years ago) link

well I think most of the career options I'm drawn to are potentially stressful, something I have to find balance in for myself.

School pyschologists, I believe, do a lot of evaluating students for placing them with special services (gifted, ed, ld, etc), help with measurement tools etc. I think there is probably some therapeutic work involved but I don't think that's the primary job function. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! I really need to talk to someone who actually does this.

You know I'm a G 'cause I got a gmail (Susan), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:01 (fifteen years ago) link

oh that sounds a lot cooler! so would this be in elementary or middle schools, then? that sounds a lot more analytical and fun (though i feel still stressful).

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:04 (fifteen years ago) link

All levels.

I think some of what appeals to me is not being in a classroom teaching to a test and being subject to the tyranny of small-minded principals (although perhaps I would be subject to the tyranny of small-minded superintendents). I still feel like education is where I belong but just not in the classroom.
