i accidentally broke it during the last upgrade; I'm working on the fix now, but it'll be a little while yet

oh ok, no problem
― schrute dwyte (unregistered), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 16:01 (seven years ago) link
I am a little surprised that I am as sad that right now I can't, for example, look up the first time someone used the word "dickhole" on the site as I am.

― r|t|c, Friday, 10 February 2017 13:12 (seven years ago) link
so i'm able to google and find threads, but when i click on the links or when i click on links in a thread (like the one mookieproof posted for the forks pottery thread), i get this message:
Error PageAn error has occurred; please try again shortly.
Return to Front Page.
this happening for anyone else?
― nomar, Saturday, 11 February 2017 01:40 (seven years ago) link
i've occasionally gotten that when trying to post something (usually with bbcode?)
figured god was telling me to delete my account
― mookieproof, Saturday, 11 February 2017 01:49 (seven years ago) link
I c&p'd a post from one thread to another. In the new thread, the post didn't include my username, date, time, bookmark, and permalink. Instead, it seems to just be using that information from within the quoted text. Thought this was unusual enough to bring up.
Original post:
Least appealing song on "Encomium: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin"
c&p'd in another thread:
Are you a believer in mira-POLLs? Do you notice and recognize mira-POLLs?

Any update on https?

My office-mate (software guy) suggests using this stuff:https://letsencrypt.org/
― DJI, Monday, 13 March 2017 19:40 (seven years ago) link
It was a bloody nightmare to install, fuck all that "hey SSL is super-easy why hasn't everyone done it yet?!?" EFF gubbins.
But it's here, and seems to be working. https://www.ilxor.com ahoy.

Thank you!

Has new.CSS changed in the last day? Site is rendering weirdly on my phone now, narrower and with wrapping of menu bar.
SSL-change related maybe?
― koogs, Thursday, 23 March 2017 03:46 (seven years ago) link
If I "request desktop site" it goes back to how it was before.
― koogs, Thursday, 23 March 2017 03:56 (seven years ago) link
Nope. Sna looks OK that way but actual threads are resized to fit the page width and all the text goes tiny.
― koogs, Thursday, 23 March 2017 03:58 (seven years ago) link
Yeah this is weird to me!
― example (crüt), Thursday, 23 March 2017 04:05 (seven years ago) link
(Android, Firefox 50.1.0)
― koogs, Thursday, 23 March 2017 04:06 (seven years ago) link
You know there's a special ILX app for Android? Search for 'Flagging' in the Play Store.
― ArchCarrier, Thursday, 23 March 2017 06:48 (seven years ago) link
Yes, weird formatting happening for me to using chrome on Android. Request desktop site seems to help, but haven't needed that previously.
― Moodles, Thursday, 23 March 2017 06:59 (seven years ago) link
Weird in an unusable way or just a "this is different" way?
It has changed: I've set a viewport for mobile which stops browsers trying to fit the entire page into view (and making it tiny as a result). This was giving us problems with search, as Google was penalising it for being mobile-unfriendly and not showing ILX results on mobile.
― stet, Thursday, 23 March 2017 09:20 (seven years ago) link
large left margin and no right margin. not unusable but not acceptable either
― r|t|c, Thursday, 23 March 2017 11:33 (seven years ago) link
Yes, left margin is too big and the bookmarks div uses only the central 40% of the page.

Don't think that's new.css, can you try that? If it is better then I probably just need to refresh the stylesheets to cold
― stet, Thursday, 23 March 2017 12:10 (seven years ago) link
That was mono something, new is the same, only more colourful. Actually, new is using probably the middle 75% of the screen for bookmarks.
(Flickr updated)
― koogs, Thursday, 23 March 2017 12:21 (seven years ago) link
(I like the new menus and add a post box, it's just those margins)
― koogs, Thursday, 23 March 2017 12:22 (seven years ago) link
Yes, large left margin is the main problem. It pushes text off the right side of the screen
― Moodles, Thursday, 23 March 2017 13:03 (seven years ago) link
change in bookmark behavior (Firefox, Win 10) - used to be, when I clicked the Bookmark link, the thread title would no longer be displayed at the top - now it remains there until you go to another page, then it disappears. nbd, just noting.
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:19 (seven years ago) link
wait it worked just now, maybe it's just too early and I need coffee
no that has definitely become a thing for me too
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:26 (seven years ago) link
Yeah I just came here to report that, and the odd viewing experience on mobile (Safari on iOS)
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:33 (seven years ago) link
Obviously the second is far more jarring than the first (the old behaviour there was desktop-only, of course)
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:34 (seven years ago) link
yeah, just saw it happen again on the Talking Heads thread, but it worked properly on this one, let's see what happens after I post
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:37 (seven years ago) link
Same as Sleeve, w/ all my bookmarks.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:38 (seven years ago) link
refreshed properly that time, no link visible
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:38 (seven years ago) link
however, it does seem to load the whole thread now whereas before I think it just reloaded whatever had been posted since your previous bookmark?
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:39 (seven years ago) link
Have also had to tick Request Desktop Site since css change. Wondered if it was a way to persuade android users to use the Flagging app tbh.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:53 (seven years ago) link
OK now I click "Bookmark" and still see the link up top (shrug)
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:58 (seven years ago) link
I haven't changed anything about the bookmarking behaviour; I wonder why that's changed. Will see what I can figure out.
― stet, Thursday, 23 March 2017 14:59 (seven years ago) link
haha that time it went away!
thanks for all your work, stet!
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:00 (seven years ago) link
