Should we give the Roos any credit? Nah.... bugger it :)

IMO they are not are real "supporters" if they carry on like pork chops at the ground.
― Hawka (hawka), Monday, 20 June 2005 07:10 (eighteen years ago) link
chrisso, to my mind, you have summed the situation up beautifully.
The Docker's supporters in WA are long suffering with the ever glimpses of pure genius on the field mixed with absolute rubbish.
The club has offered so much over a number of years and built up a great expectation only to dash the hopes of their supporters time and time again.
Their list is second to none in the competition but they cannot string together the games that will excite their supporters. Their recruiting, and the players they let go to other clubs, defy explanation at times and their on field presence is weak.
I can only sympathise with the people that boo the coach and players.

From what I've seen Chris C has done a wonderful job galvanising Fremantle, yes he has got a good list, maybe the supporters should be looking to their behaviour and the expectations they are putting on the team.
Whatever the reason I will never agree with 'supporters' booing coach and team. Same as the Richmond supporters giving it to Frawley - disgusting.
While we are on the subject I also dislike Captains and Coaches apologising to supporters when they don't win or perform well. It's all part and parcel of being a supporter of a team - sometimes you win sometimes you lose - get over it and move on!

It amazes me when interstate teams fly home after losses(in some cases bad ones)and there are supporters clapping and cheering upon their return.
Good on the freo fans, what did you expect lucy that they politely clap that crap performance that prolly ends there chances at finals, well done boys good work, bullshit, they should have let fly with the abuse, these blokes are of good $. and were pathetic.
― jsa, Monday, 20 June 2005 22:08 (eighteen years ago) link
Yes they all get great $'s, along with the great $'s is usually a very big ego, you can't tell me no attention whatsoever to a great ego doesn't hurt.

Hawka, as was mentioned On The Couch last night Freo had their whole season riding on one quarter and could only produce 2 points. It doesn't get more dissapointing than that.

I watched everyone of the 237 point Geelong kicked against us at Carrara, I was behind the goals in the last quarter and got a sunburned on the roof of my mouth watching the ball go over my bloody head. But we clapped John Hutton off the ground for his 8 goals.

Emotional fans are important to clubs, no good having a heap of supporters who politely clap when you get kicked of the park, oh well done boys good effort against the West Coast you tried hard but lost by 117 points, give us a spell. More like absolute shit, heartless performance booo pissweak booo
Agree leaving early is taboo.
Prolly why PA has been a great club in the SANFL, supporters never put up with crap performace and gave it to the players, demanded they play better or piss off.

Says who? And why? Is the ozone layer going to cave in and the world start spinning backwards and hit Venus? At the start of the season I shelled out the hard-earned to watch this crap. I won't get it back. If I decide I'm wasting time as well as money, I'm outta there. I'm meant to be enjoying myself, and if I'm that crapped off with the team, the umps, the opposition, the rest of the crowd, etc etc, I'll do something else with my leisure time. Stuff the lot of them!
Besides it's better than spitting on the coach. (Although whichever Einstein at Richmond started that whinge about the team's fans probably did as much as anybody to bring that incident about. Paying to watch a crap side is one thing, but shelling out and then getting blamed for the side's crapness crosses not just that line but the next couple as well.)

If I was a Freo fan, with the season on the line as it was, and my team was that disappointing, I would have booed them off.
The might realise how annoyed/disappointed/passionate their fans are - and maybe the players can play with the same passion for the cause as the supporters have.
Throwing missiles, spitting, crowd violence - that stuff is well over the top.
But giving someone a razz can be as deserved as the momentous roar tht a player can get when performing an act of genious. These blokes are entertainers - entertain us...

When does your "passion" for the game stop, at the SANFL level, the AFLQ level, local seniors, under 14's? Passion is going when you know there is a good chance they will get beaten, and watching them learn, stuff up and/or get better. The day football falls to the level of "entertainment" is the day I stop going. If I want entertainment I go to the pictures, if I want more then that I go to the footy. If this is not you bag, there is always the NBL.
― Big Bird (Big Bird), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 22:17 (eighteen years ago) link
You want real footy, with its variable weather and conditions, players showing guts and determination, go watch the local league (and hope the umpires don't stuff the game up!).
I don't know if I've ever booed my team off the ground, but I know there are times I wish I could have when watching them on TV...
ps - does the nbl still exist?
