one year passes...

For Christmas 2016, my father and stepmother gave me a small bag of kopi luwak whole beans from a trip to Indonesia; yes the partially digested coffee shit out by civet cats. As part of my 2018 decluttering and packing for a house move, I fished them out of the freezer, ground them to a fine drip grind, and brewed them in the Chemex.

Overall, its a fairly rich medium roast, without the sharp green notes I'm used to in Sumatran coffee. No sharp edges anywhere, really, just a woody base like chewing on oak bark, and hints of cocoa and caramel. There's a mustiness there too, the taste of a dusty shelf perhaps.
