“Major League Baseball considers the obligations of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program essential to the integrity of our game, our Clubs and all of the players who take the field. It has always been Major League Baseball’s position that no matter who tests positive, we will exhaust all avenues in pursuit of the appropriate discipline. We have been true to that position in every instance, because baseball fans deserve nothing less.

“As a part of our drug testing program, the Commissioner’s Office and the Players Association agreed to a neutral third party review for instances that are under dispute. While we have always respected that process, Major League Baseball vehemently disagrees with the decision rendered today by arbitrator Shyam Das.”

"Braun didn't argue evidence of tampering, didn't argue anything about science being wrong but argued protocol had not been followed. A second source confirmed to ESPN investigative reporter Mark Fainaru-Wada that Braun did not dispute the science but rather questioned chain of custody/collection procedure.

According to one of the sources, the collector, after getting Braun's sample, was supposed to take the sample to FedEx/Kinkos for shipping but thought it was closed because it was late on a Saturday. As has occurred in some other instances, the collector took the sample home and kept it in a cool place and possibly refrigerated it. Policy states that the sample is supposed to get to FedEx as soon as possible."

Exasperated media published on March 4:

http://www.freep.com/article/20140304/SPORTS02/303040023/detroit-tigers-st-louis-cardinals-jhonny-peralta

Jhonny Peralta isn’t a St. Louis Cardinal because he violated baseball’s drug policy. He’s a Cardinal because he got caught violating that policy.

This put the Tigers in a squeeze last season when Peralta was about to be suspended, forcing the team to trade for another shortstop, giving up a valuable prospect — Avisail Garcia — in return.

That shortstop, Jose Iglesias, didn’t play Monday when the Cardinals took on the Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium.

But Peralta did, reminding Tigers fans what baseball justice looks like.

Cheat. Serve time. Move on. Come back. Blast two homers against the team you hurt. This end result isn’t Peralta’s fault, per se; he’s just navigating the system that employs him.

BRING THE PAIN!

Rodriguez also described how Bosch gave the ballplayer “tips on how to beat MLB’s drug testing,” according to the DEA report.

The secret? According to Rodriguez, “Bosch advised him to only use mid-stream urine for MLB drug testing. Bosch told Rodriguez not to use the beginning or the end urine stream.”

It worked. A test he took while using the drugs came up negative.

this is some Kenny powers shit

As others have noted, the stark differences between the MLB and minor league rules for marijuana use raise the possibility that some minor leaguers could try to openly use marijuana in order to force their teams to promote them to the 40-man roster. While this strategy may not work for ordinary minor leaguers, for top prospects it is not inconceivable that a team would choose to promote a player to the 40-man roster to ensure that the player would only be fined, not suspended, for his marijuana use. Otherwise, the team could see any marijuana-using top prospect sidelined for 50 or more games for a violation of the minor league drug rules.
