A-Rod Traded To Boston

Is this the biggest trade in the history of professional sports? Where will Nomar go? Will the Red Sox win the AL East?

not so fast nonzero:

Rumors are that if the A-Rod trade happens, Nomar may be going to the ChiSox for Magglio Ordonenez (sp?).

Criminy. If this happens, the Red Sox lineup will be freakish.

The Red Sox are getting closer to completing this deal. Somehow it just doesn't feel right. Anyone else? Of course a lot of what happens during the offseason is maddening. For example, the Yankees have officiallly announced the Sheffeild signing.

metfigga (metfigga), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Nomar may be going to the ChiSox for Magglio Ordonez

...and then I heard a rumor that the Sox would deal him to the Dodgers for pitching help.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard the Dodgers rumor (which frightens me), though not about the Chisox middlemen.

Leee Iacocca (Leee), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Mota is worth more to the Dodgers as trade potential than probably as a player and the ChiSox are going to need a closer (don't mean to harp on it or anything).

The ChiSox must know that Ordonez isn't going to stick around, not that anyone sticks around for them (other than Frank).

There is some good symetry to the Red Sox trading for A-Rod, it may be just the thing that could counteract the Ruth whammy, that is if you are the superstitous type.

The Red Sox would be paying a bunch of cash for not a tremendous amount of extra offense. A-Rod and Ordonez are great, but Nomar and Manny are not cheeze graters at the plate.

If nothing else, the A-Rod trade should make a boon for baseball TV ratings when the RS and Yanks play. It might even end up on network TV (laughs).

I think the issues with Nomar and Manny were attitude-related rather than performance related. Boston's front office was probably of the mind that they could get two equal to slightly upgradable players and get rid of the head cases/ego-trippers than that is money well spent.

At any rate, this is a dead issue. Thanks for coming out.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 19 December 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

dead issue link

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 19 December 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom Hicks will kill baseball in North Texas. You've already got a last-place team. (Try to) Trade away the only legitimate draw for a guy with a bad attitude to save money, and with no signs of improvement for the team in the near future.

I'm glad I'm not a Rangers fan. For now I'm just pissed I had to pay for their stadium.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 19 December 2003 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The Rangers have a history of ownership of people of questionable judgement.

"For now I'm just pissed I had to pay for their stadium."

Thank the prez.

I think it much can be said of the fact that one can have a contract worth a quarter of a billion dollars and still not really be able to do what you want.

A-Rod is the Bizzaro Curt Flood.

It is no wonder the game continues to slowly slide into the abyss.

earlnash, Friday, 19 December 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The issue with Nomar is ATTITUDE-RELATED? Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

This whole thing falling apart is bad for a bunch of teams.

I don't envy Francona in Boston. How many times will the lack of this trade happening come up in the next few months and even worse if the Sox stumble out of the gate with a slump by either Nomar or Manny?

If the Red Sox play killer next year and get over on the Yanks, all may be forgotten, if not, this is will be another albatross circling over Fenway.

The best part is that the trade didn't happen and the Red Sox still won the World Series.

i wish we could win the world series every year. even tho i don't really care about baseball.
