TS - "Around the Horn" vs. "Pardon the Interruption"

Two sports chatter shows on back to back on ESPN in the afternoons.

ATH has generally funny sportswriter banter, especially when Woody Paige is ranting on about something. PTI is maybe funnier, plus a little more interesting in their conversations. I'll go with PTI!

PTI all the way!! My boy Kornheiser and my boy Wilbon just have that great rapport that you just can't force, and only comes along once in a blue moon. Best thing on ESPN since Olbermann/Patrick on SportsCenter. It also helps that they're, like, smart and stuff.

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

PTI by miles and miles. Their level of discourse is way more entertaining than the Politically Incorrect-esque shoutathon that ATH can be. (ie what Broheems said - they're smart and stuff)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

But the ATH episode where Max Kellerman starts repping for Raekwon and Ghostface was pretty awesome.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

pti all the way. broheems says it all - the chemistry + intelligence make it not at all close.

i saw kellerman once on fox news and he mentioned "the liberal media" so i don't like him.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't Kellerman off the show now? They have "Stat Boy" from PTI handling the duties now.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I think he's actually getting his own show on Fox now. At least, they've been running ads for something called "I, Max" (egads, what a horrible name.)

I should say, I don't mind Kellerman at all - in fact, I really enjoy him when he analyzes fights (and I know jack-shit about boxing) - and I have no problem with the format of "Around the Horn". But any show that gives airtime to those two worthless windbags Mariotti and Paige is automatically a dud, in my book.

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

PTI is probably the most consistently good opinion show on television, sports or non-sports. The gimmick with the timer should make it suck -- and sometimes it does when Kornheiser and/or Wilbon aren't on -- but seems to just squeeze all the noise into signal instead. Watching it makes me like sports more. Nuff said.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 29 April 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I noticed that, too - I pay more attention to sports when I'm watching PTI on a semi-regular basis.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 30 April 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

around the horn is awful awful awful. pti can, as someone noted above, draw in non-sports fans and still be interesting. around the horn, by contrast, is just yelly yelly mcyell.

maura (maura), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

pti is to 60 minutes what around the horn is to dateline. the big difference: on ath all we get are stock answers and ignorant rants; on pti kornheiser and wilbon actually, ya know, LISTEN to each other and stuff. how novel!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 April 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

PTI also has intro music that rips off Pavement's "Cut Your Hair"! Bonus!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 30 April 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

PTI is the best. I plan my afternoons around it. ATH horn is considerbly better since stat boy took over. I fucking hate Max Kellerman and want him to die a thousand different ways at the same time.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I like that Stat Boy is still Stat Boy on PTI while being host of ATH.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 30 April 2004 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

that is awesome, it's true

John (jdahlem), Friday, 30 April 2004 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if that's actually true. Might be wishful thinking on my part.

Alex in SF, Monday, 23 March 2009 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

haha oh. it really looked like it though, didn't it? he looked just like my old baseball coach after he lost weight b/c of the cancer.

abe being busy (k3vin k.), Monday, 23 March 2009 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

there was one great moment on ATH a while back that i will forever cherish

the moderator dude asks one of the panelists, coulda been anyone - let's say plaschke for the sake of humor - he asks him for his take on the topic of the moment

as he opens his mouth to start bloviating, moderator dude screams NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!! and mutes him

awesome

makes me feel glad that the two hosts of PTI are too feeble to ever be caught in a police sting

JAY MARIOTTI ARRESTED PT 2

Former ESPN commentator Jay Anthony Mariotti pleaded not guilty today to charges that he stalked and assaulted his former girlfriend, the same woman he was convicted of assaulting last year, the District Attorney’s office announced.

I hate Around the Horn so fucking much. It's the most incomprehensible, pointless show format I've ever seen.

hated old moniker, too tired to think of a clever new one (Hurting 2), Thursday, 12 May 2011 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

i don't hate it that much but damn how is this a question
