Bronson Arroyo was scratched from his start for the Nationals yesterday. It was later reported that he has an 80% tear in his labrum, and his career is likely over.

Rays' closer Brad Boxberger out at least 2 months, abdominal surgery

we can be heroes just for about 3.6 seconds (Dr Morbius), Friday, 18 March 2016 21:08 (eight years ago) link

It seems when pitchers get those abdominal problems, it takes them a long time to get over them and easy to re-injure. Johnny Cueto lost about a year to one over a couple seasons.

@washingnats
Confirmed: Bronson Arroyo has a inflamed burca sac. A baseball source said it could take a few weeks before he gets back on the mound. #Nats

The Milwaukee Brewers will start the season without reliever Will Smith, who tore a ligament in his right knee while taking his spikes off after a game.

dang. at least it was his non-pitching wrist. as a fan of a non AL-team i am rooting for the yankees' bullpen to obliterate strikeout records.

Stephen Strasburg was scratched from his start Monday night against the Orioles and placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow soreness, the Nationals announced Monday afternoon. Right-hander A.J. Cole has been promoted from Triple-A Syracuse to start in his place.

also, stanton is talking about trying to return in time for the last week of the season. guess that possibility also depends on how the marlins are doing by that point

After the rep departed, the players said, Valencia confronted Butler and told him, “Don’t you ever loud talk me in front of a rep. That was wrong,” and walked aggressively toward Butler. Butler turned around, took a couple steps toward Valencia, and according to both witnesses, said, “I can say whatever I want and your b— ass isn’t going to do anything about it.”

One player said that the men leaned in, bumped heads and then started pushing each other, Valencia started swinging and hit Butler in the temple. After the players broke things up, Butler told the players he was OK.

The Washington Nationals were hoping Stephen Strasburg’s return on Wednesday would provide an extra boost to their postseason outlook. Instead, they’re left wondering what his immediate and perhaps long-term future will hold after he was forced from the game with apparent discomfort in his right arm.

Strasburg had retired one Atlanta Braves batter in the third inning when he first started to appear uncomfortable.

Indians catcher Yan Gomes has a broken right wrist, an injury that will likely end his season.

Gomes was set to be activated from the disabled list Friday and catch Corey Kluber when AL Central-leading Cleveland opened a critical three games series against the Detroit Tiger. However, Gomes was hit with a pitch during a rehab appearance Wednesday night for Double-A Akron.

Manager Terry Francona said an MRI revealed Gomes has a non-displaced fracture. He'll visit a specialist to determine what to do next.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Friday, 16 September 2016 21:11 (seven years ago) link

Keon Broxton ran arms-first into the brick wall at Wrigley at full speed today, probably done for the season with a wrist fracture. Too bad, he is a fun player to watch.
