The Washington Nationals were hoping Stephen Strasburg’s return on Wednesday would provide an extra boost to their postseason outlook. Instead, they’re left wondering what his immediate and perhaps long-term future will hold after he was forced from the game with apparent discomfort in his right arm.

Strasburg had retired one Atlanta Braves batter in the third inning when he first started to appear uncomfortable.

Indians catcher Yan Gomes has a broken right wrist, an injury that will likely end his season.

Gomes was set to be activated from the disabled list Friday and catch Corey Kluber when AL Central-leading Cleveland opened a critical three games series against the Detroit Tiger. However, Gomes was hit with a pitch during a rehab appearance Wednesday night for Double-A Akron.

Manager Terry Francona said an MRI revealed Gomes has a non-displaced fracture. He'll visit a specialist to determine what to do next.

Keon Broxton ran arms-first into the brick wall at Wrigley at full speed today, probably done for the season with a wrist fracture. Too bad, he is a fun player to watch.
