It doesn't matter what he does for the rest of the season - he is hands down the greatest last-round fantasy flier I have ever taken.

Felix pitches 7 shutout innings with 10 Ks, no-decision. Currently at 0-1 w/0.69 ERA, M's appear to be returning to form.

What's up with the way base runners are symbolized on ESPN's home page these days, it's weird

damn
"Yes, the A’s flew from Seattle to Oakland on a plane the Giants are chartering this season.
No, the A’s players weren’t upset, embarrassed or complaining, according to right fielder Josh Reddick.
Reddick tweeted a picture of the plane, with a Giants logo, and heard back from not-too-thrilled A’s fans. It’s believed a few folks in the front office weren’t pleased, either."

This whole "Papa Slam" thing is pretty gross.

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 14 April 2016 21:25 (eight years ago) link

I wouldn't care except MLB is using the phrase very actively across its site and social media.

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 14 April 2016 21:26 (eight years ago) link

Wong at second base. 5 4

worth noting that 1) Gyorko has been on fire recently, and 2) it was discussed earlier in the game that Wong has the flu

he made 2 errors in the 3 hour long bottom of the 6th inning that followed. one is officially recorded, the other wasn't (the second to last play of the inning, an easy double play was interrupted by a throw to Wong that he held onto just long enough to record the out at second and then drop before throwing to first)

lots of interesting stuff here: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-our-2016-mlb-predictions-work/

the URL suggests that it only discusses 2016, but it also discusses some of the methdology behind the Complete History of MLB interactive tool thing.

there's a list of all-time pitcher peaks, and you'll never believe who #9 is! /buzzfeed but no seriously, it's very surprising. also:

The biggest mismatch of all time according to our pitcher scores was a 137-point Elo swing back in 1997, when Randy Johnson (+87) faced Ricky Bones (-50).

good to know

LeMahieu does follow in a long list of batters who didn't have the guts of Ted Williams. Bill Madlock was the king of sitting on a title.
