is that incorporating air resistance? because 100 feet per second is 68 mph

k3vin k., Wednesday, 11 June 2014 21:12 (nine years ago) link

I assume it'd be 97-98 when initially thrown and there's probably some equation that describes how the speed slows

, Wednesday, 11 June 2014 21:16 (nine years ago) link

Maybe 97-98 is the velocity along the arc of the throw, 68 MPH is as the crow flies.

Dang I wish I hadn't goofed off on my physics class all these years.

As the ball left Cespedes hands a train left the station going west at 125 MPH

If the train is currently 350 miles away from the stadium when will Cespedes' throw reach the train?

, Wednesday, 11 June 2014 21:29 (nine years ago) link

Azn math nerds fail. :(

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 11 June 2014 21:34 (nine years ago) link

i mean obviously it wasn't thrown at 68 mph so that must be when it left his hand

k3vin k., Wednesday, 11 June 2014 22:32 (nine years ago) link

ugh my fried brain, 68 mph is just the horizontal component of the speed. with an angle that small tho the hypotenuse would basically be the same

k3vin k., Wednesday, 11 June 2014 23:39 (nine years ago) link

i just got it from here ¯\(°_o)/¯

mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 June 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

there's definitely some sort of accounting for air resistance

k3vin k., Thursday, 12 June 2014 00:00 (nine years ago) link

ugh my fried brain

lol I read that as "ugh my friend brain" and was going to make fun of you for misspelling Brian's name.

k3vin k., Thursday, 12 June 2014 00:19 (nine years ago) link

i.e. 73 MPH.

let him work on the fastball in the minors for 10 years and if he doesn't make it sure we'll convert him to a knuckle-outfielder

the slow motion replay is great, when he dives for the ball and misses it, you can see it just spinning like a top on his forearm for a second.
