The San Diego Padres have placed second baseman Jedd Gyorko on the 15-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

heralded rockies prospect eddie butler, after being shelled in his big league debut friday, has been placed on the 15-day DL with a rotator cuff issue

at least he'll presumably be paid as an injured major leaguer, unlike chris withrow, whom the dodgers optioned just before he was diagnosed with a torn UCL. gotta be a grievance for that, tho, as he never even pitched for the AAA club

mookieproof, Monday, 9 June 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

oh, the option on withrow was rescinded so that's cool

Gavin Floyd was having a really good game against the Nats but his rebuilt elbow went pffft in the 7th. He had a bulge like a ping pong ball sticking out of it as he left.

Broken olecranon (tip of the elbow bone), wtf. At least it wasn't the TJ ligament.

Arroyo has another year on his D-Back contract, he will try to come back.

If Arroyo somehow gets a bit back on his fastball from the surgery and recovery like some others have had, I could see him pitching into his 40s. He even talked about it on this interview a couple years ago.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/qa-bronson-arroyo-master-craftsman/

BA: To be honest with you, I think I could pitch as long as I can throw the ball 87-88 mph. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to do that. Physically, weight-room-wise, on the mound, I don’t feel much different than when I was 30. I’m 36 now.

The prime of my life, as far as velocity and strength, was in 2006. I was probably throwing the hardest when I first got traded here. I was 88 to 91-92. I don’t get the ball up to 90 mph much any more. I’ve had four outings here in the spring — granted, it’s spring training and there’s not a lot of adrenaline going — and I’ve only hit 89 once. I’ve been living at 87-88.

If I can keep doing that, I think I can pitch as long as I want to. My mind is better. You get more comfortable being out there in jams. You’re not panicking in situations. As time goes on, everything is easier — except keeping your velocity.

NYY keep finding new and exciting ways to hover at .500. Hoping tanaka has an extended shutdown phase and they're officially out of it by mid august. I know I am the only one who cares in the affirmative about nyy

Masahiro Tanaka has a partially torn UCL and will undergo nonsurgical rehab, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday night.

In a best-case scenario, the Yankees ace will miss six weeks, Cashman said. If rehab doesn't work, Tanaka likely will need Tommy John surgery.

mookieproof, Friday, 11 July 2014 01:30 (nine years ago) link

whoa

johnny crunch, Friday, 11 July 2014 01:38 (nine years ago) link

btw has nonsurgical rehab *ever* worked for a partially torn ucl y/n

mookieproof, Friday, 11 July 2014 01:39 (nine years ago) link

iirc dr andrews (who is actually a james bond villain) usually says "go ahead, try the nonsurgical rehab" before cackling maniacally and then muttering "and i'll see you soon afterward for the ol' TJ" to himself

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 July 2014 01:46 (nine years ago) link

takashi saito came back from a partial tear using PRP

Saito credited his unlikely recovery from a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow that he suffered in July to a cutting-edge medical procedure, which, to his knowledge, had never been tried on a major league pitcher.

Cliff Lee exited tonight's game against the Nationals in the third inning, gesturing toward his elbow.

guess cliff won't be a waiver trade either. and he's due $25m next year

mookieproof, Friday, 1 August 2014 01:30 (nine years ago) link

It's been reported that Cain does not need TJ surgery!

Eric Hosmer likely out 3-4 weeks with broken hand

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Friday, 1 August 2014 14:03 (nine years ago) link

Unconfirmed reports that Dr. James Andrews was seen limping out of the backroom of his lair office, bleeding heavily and with an axe protruding from his left calf. simultaneously, Matt Cain was seen sprinting out of the front door of the building, waving his arms and shouting "call 911! 911! He's lost his mind!". Gunshots and bloodcurdling screams were heard in the building shortly before Andrews and Cain emerged, with some observers noting "evil cackles" from a voice resembling Andrews.

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 August 2014 14:17 (nine years ago) link

lol

Bee OK, Friday, 1 August 2014 14:33 (nine years ago) link

an actual quote, this time: "Andrews did reportedly recommend a course of action for the "loose bodies" in Cain's elbow, and the Giants "are digesting it." Presumably, that recommendation was arthroscopic surgery, and if the procedure is deemed necessary, it could cost Cain most of the remaining season."

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 August 2014 18:23 (nine years ago) link

was gonna say, there's no way andrews let him out of there without recommending ending his season in some way
