the current us edition has a lot of extras, which is why I thought I should get it. I'm sure it's better than the bootleg Chinese copy. The one I have skips (and I have the most crud-friendly dvd player there is) and I've also noticed that the editing (among other things) is different between the US and HK versions, with the US one seeming to be a much better movie. (If you can believe it, those of you who didn't like 2046).

- there is a region A BD of 2046 which you can import from Yesasia (or eBay); I have heard the print is not as spectacular as it could be but if you want this movie on blu-ray, it's out there. my copy is currently in the mail - film school turned me into a remorseless WKW stan who still counts ITMFL as one of the best movies he's ever seen, so if a movie of his comes out on blu-ray I will eventually buy it. - speaking of which, while Ashes of Time is not available on BD as you remember it, WKW actually went back and turned it into something completely different, reshooting stuff where he could and editing the hell out of it; THAT version is available on a region-A BD and I recommend it with great vehemence; I never could understand just wtf was going on in the version that had been out there for years, and this new version actually makes sense. he's made better movies but this is still worth watching. - the remaining Wong Kar-Wai movie which I wish Criterion would do their thing to is Fallen Angels, which IMO contains the best moments in WKW's cinematic canon (aside from ITMFL). there's a R-A version out there so it's still accessible, but sometimes I imagine Fallen Angels looking as sumptuous as Criterion's ITMFL and oh how I yearn and such. what's infuriating is that they were able to get Chungking Express, which is an undeniably great movie but doesn't come close to Fallen Angels as far as sheer power.
