Surely the "band name" for all of these is "U2?"

If you need a different "band name" for mine, for legal reasons, please credit it to "YouToo."

I didn't, oops. I think I can re-encode if I still have the source .WAV as soon as I get out of church.

i'm going to upload a version of this to sendspace now and post the link here when it's done; maybe people could download it and make sure it works and everything looks ok and i'll make the needed changes before we "officially" release this ... don't want anyone to be mad that something wasn't credited correctly

I'm trying to work at the moment and don't know if this would be the most conducive soundtrack. I'll listen ASAP :)

have listened thru to track 6 so far

all contribs A+

there is a frightening level of mindmeld consistency in fact I suspect these tracks are all the product of crutis sock puppets

鬼の手 (Edward III), Sunday, 1 March 2009 19:14 (fifteen years ago) link

... not that I'm on SLSK or similar much these days anyway, but the truly lolsome thing would be if some chump downloads it from me :)

Actually, fuck it, it's worth blasting on to every sharing network I can find just to achieve that. (Which was, in some ways, the whole point of the exercise.) Ha!

"it would be awesome if various music people on this board would each claim one of these song titles, then write and record a song with that title, then put a link to it on this board. the songs don't have to sound like U2 or have anything to do with U2 at all. the u2 album comes out march 3, if we could get this all done before then, it would be awesome. anyone interested?"

^^ this goes in the liner notes obv

I think n/a wanted ppl to check it out to make there weren't any probs before distributing so maybe we keep it to ourselves + have big launch tomorrow?

also, anyone who didn't submit a 320kbs version has until tomorrow afternoon EST to get it to me, if you want one in the streaming version which will be ready tomorrow night (I have yrs m bison, thx)

鬼の手 (Edward III), Sunday, 1 March 2009 20:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Mine is 320kbs, but it's VBR, is that OK?

snoball, Sunday, 1 March 2009 20:55 (fifteen years ago) link

close enough for rock n roll but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a CBR version if you wanna send one

鬼の手 (Edward III), Sunday, 1 March 2009 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

No problem, I've just mixed the track to 320CBR, but ILX webmail doesn't allow attachments. Do you have an e-mail address I can send it to?

snoball, Sunday, 1 March 2009 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I love y'alls so much for this

warmsherry, Sunday, 1 March 2009 21:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Sorry for dragging down the quality, but per the houseguests excuse, I spent about 30 minutes tossing mine together with crappy direct-in guitars, and I get the feeling the 192 bitrate actually leaves it sounding slightly better than it otherwise might, so ... I'll stick with that, I guess?

(P.S. I am more curious than ever about Tombot's very cool and distinctive approach to reverb.)

No worries.

Genuinely, dudes, you all fucking rule.

I kinda feel bad about the cover now. I mean, if the goal is to trick megaU2 fans into downloading it, as soon as they see some lady Bono rising up from the bottom of the ocean and chasing some blue lady wearing sunglasses up a ladder they're going to realize it's not legit.

Z S, you would be amazed how retarded people are

if you don't stan for something, you will fall for anything (roxymuzak), Sunday, 1 March 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost :)

Hmm. "U2 fans" is a large population. So even if the proportion of really fucking stupid ones is the same as it is in any normal population (and you might, if you were being all zingy and ILX about it, say it'd be higher), that's still a shitload of people who might just fall for it, no matter what ;)

should i put the real cover with the post then?

the Z S cover is included in the download right

i dont think the goal is to trick u2 fans is it

max, Sunday, 1 March 2009 22:51 (fifteen years ago) link

i thought the goal was just to be rad

max, Sunday, 1 March 2009 22:52 (fifteen years ago) link

This is not a fake U2 album, it's just a not-U2-covers album inspired by U2 song titles, with varying degrees of whimsy.

Ok, I'm quoting both you and crut if that's ok and reupping.

People will probably still download it thinking it's U2, though. for real.

Crutis the crooton told me about this thread. I can't believe it's buried away on the "I Make Music" board. You didn't tell me you'd done a track for this Crutis!

This is ILM creativity at its finest! I am so happy that people have come forth and expressed themselves and made this thing. This is fantastic. Why don't you guys post about this on ILM?
