waffles.fm goes live in under an hour. invites will soon be available; please read this entire post before responding.
As a result of the OiNK.cd shutdown, we have had an influx of requests for waffles invites. At this time our servers are at their maximum load and we can not accept new members. However, we are working to expand our resources and will be able to accommodate a large percentage of the OiNK diaspora at a date in the near future (hopefully by mid November).
Since we will not be able to accommodate 180,000 new members all at once, we must exercise some discretion when welcoming new members into our p2p family. To give us an idea as to where you are coming from, we require you to answer the following:
a) requested username b) first name (no surnames) c) age d) gender e) geographic location f) desired avatar (no cute avatars allowed)
1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you on OiNK or other trackers
2a) Explain what a ratio is in three or four sentences. 2b)If you were a member of OiNK, tell us what your ratio was at the time of its closing. (be honest!)
3) Briefly summarize the influence of African American culture on Western popular music (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum).
4a) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the last 12 months? 4b) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the year you were born?
5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? (five sentence minimum).
6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? (six sentence minimum).

Selected applicants will be notified here or via webmail. Within 24 hours you will receive your invite.
Thanks for your interest, and good luck!!!!!!!

A ratio is a way to track a user’s contribution to a site. There are two factors to a ratio, the amount of data uploaded, and the amount of data downloaded. A ratio is calculated by dividing the amount uploaded by the amount downloaded. For example if a user has uploaded 160 GB, and downloaded 30 GB his ratio would be 5.33. 2b) If you were a member of OiNK, tell us what your ratio was at the time of its closing. (be honest!) My ratio at the time of closing was 5.8. 3) Briefly summarize the influence of African American culture on Western popular music (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum). African American culture has a long influence on Western Popular music. The most notable influence began in the 1950s with the advent of Rock and Roll, and escalated with the rise in popularity of Elvis Presley. Elvis was heavily influenced by the blues sound, and mixed “white” music and “black” music. Elvis’ popularity continued to rise in the 1960s, as did the influence of African American music. The 1960s also saw the rise of Motown, which began as a record label owned by an African American releasing music created by African Americans. Artists such as the Supremes, found crossover success and were embraced by American pop culture. Many bands similar to the Supremes also found success and influence. This is really just the beginning; the most recent influence is in the form of hip hop. Hip hop began on the streets of New York in the 1970s. A prime example of its influence and acceptance by Western popular music is the rap category in the grammy awards.
4a) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the last 12 months? 1) Modest Mouse – We were dead before the ship even sank 2) The Shins – Wincing the night Away 3) Lily Allen – Alright, Still 4) Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice 5) Fountains of Wayne – Traffic and Weather
4b) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the year you were born? 1) Neil Young & Crazy Horse – Rust Never Sleeps 2) The Specials – The Specials 3) Bob Marley and The Wailers – Survival 4) Van Halen – Van Halen II 5) The Who - Quadrophenia 5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? (five sentence minimum). The most unjust pitchfork numerical rating was the official release of Fiona Apple’s Exrtraordinary Machine. A release of the album produced by John Brion was leaked onto the internet, many thought this was a great release, the record company disagreed, and changes were made. The John Brion release received a rating of 7.8 whereas the official release received a 6.2. I believe this to be the perfect example of pitchfork rating an album based on factors outside of the realm of the music itself. At the time it was sort of cool to dislike the official release. I listened to both versions, and personally thought the official was just as good as, if not better than the leaked version. This is just one of many examples of situations just like this. 6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? (six sentence minimum). I would have to choose Morrissey. His music has always been consistently high quality. The smiths are one of my favorite bands from the 80s. His lyrics, while sometimes depressing, can be quite witty, and entertaining. Plus, his social commentary is spot on: “America Is Not The World”. Moby’s music is tolerable, but I think I would go insane after a while, because it would all sound the same after a while. I’m not sure who Momus is, and while I enjoy discovering new music, I would not want it for a desert island.

2a) Explain what a ratio is in three or four sentences. A ratio is the amount of data uploaded, divided by the amount of data downloaded. A ratio is how you make sure that deadbeats aren't leeching without contributing. A ratio doesn't need a three sentence explanation.
3) Briefly summarize the influence of African American culture on Western popular music. Black people created the Blues. The Blues met Country and begat R&B. R&B begat Rock & Roll. The Blues begat Gospel. Gospel begat Soul. Soul begat Funk and Reggae. Reggae begat Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop begat Rap.

5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? I don't read that shit.
6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? I choose Morrissey, because who better to feel sorry for yourself with, stranded on a desert island as you are, than Mr. Nosebleeds himself. Robert Smith, that's who, but he wasn't one of the options. Moby is like the worst shit I never listened to in high school so I wouldn't start now. Momus is alright but Josef K was better. I could be consoled in my miserable fate if I had The Queen is Dead. Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head.

2a) Explain what a ratio is in three or four sentences. This is the ratio of recieved data routed through the tracker over the amount sent.
2b)If you were a member of OiNK, tell us what your ratio was at the time of its closing. (be honest!) 0.84 and rising. I spent hours responding to requests to get power user+ status from a 0.71 ratio in the week before they were shut down!
3) Briefly summarize the influence of African American culture on Western popular music (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum). Its not hard to see these days, with hip hop being the style of the masses in this neck of the woods. Most people do not realize that techno has African American roots (even though they are suburban roots). The 'big three' in Detroit turned Kraftwerk into the format that inspired many. Chuck did the same for rock and roll. Kingston music ossified itself into dub, reggae, etc. These styles made their way to Brixton where they had a massive amount of influence on British music. Even earlier than that, the northern soul movement was inspired by rare recordings of primarily black soul and proto-funk from America. Jazz was raised in Harlem, a predominantly black area on the island of Manhattan. Even classical music was heavily affected by the adaptation of African polyrhythms by composers like Reich. Disco began primarily as a homosexual African American phenomenon centered in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. That is where and when the modern DJ first existed (I don't believe that Jamaican DJs worked in the same format at all). I know Grasso wasn't black, but this is about culture and not individuals, right?
4a) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the last 12 months? False - 2007 Gaiser - Eye Contact Pram - The Moving Frontier Shape of Broad Minds - Craft of the Lost Art Onur Ozer - Red Cabaret
4b) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the year you were born? Miles Davis - Bitches Brew Scientist - Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 2 The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe Burial - Burial
5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? (five sentence minimum). Vladislav Delay - Demon Tracks (2.5 stars) This is still one of the most original ambient albums I have ever heard. It sounds like someone in their artistic prime. It must have taken forever and yet it sounds fresh as if it was improvised. It is a natural progression from his earlier work, yet it was incredibly surprising on the first listens. And to cap it off, he made this incredible and extremely 'trippy' album after going sober.
6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? (six sentence minimum). I'd have to go along with Morrisey. I didn't get into the Smiths early enough to keep up with his fans and the bands they got into. Maybe that is why I don't understand a lot of modern indie rock. It didn't choose him because I would rather listen to his music (which I would). Its not because he looks good in a blouse. Its because I'm not getting laid ever again and I want Morrisey to make me feel okay about that.

2a) Explain what a ratio is in three or four sentences. it's the amount of data you've uploaded vs. downloaded. if you've uploaded an equal amount as you've downloaded, you've got a 1-to-1 ratio, usually represented as 1.0. the ratio is used on private trackers to keep people sharing like they should be.
2b)If you were a member of OiNK, tell us what your ratio was at the time of its closing. (be honest!) it was around 0.95 - i had it up to 2.0 but was being sandvine'd towards the end.
3) Briefly summarize the influence of African American culture on Western popular music (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum). Western culture simply wouldn't be the same, worldwide, if not for Af-Am culture. The Blues influenced the biggest rock & roll groups of the century. Jazz and Soul had a major impact on Jamaican culture which in turn influenced the whole of global culture through DJ'ing, & studio techniques pioneered there. Those transplanted Jamaicans in NYC went on to invent Hip Hop - an indirect way Black American culture came full circle. Chicago House and Detroit Techno - both black and in many cases gay music - spawned a global dance culture via the UK. Don't forget dancing - from the 30's jazz era through yesterday black americans have been inventing new moves on the dancefloor, whether the Jitterbug or the Aunt Jackie. Ditto for slang - much of what's cool to say comes from Af-Am culture -- including the word "cool" itself. Would we have a worldwide radio culture, with constant access to new music, if the clamoring for new music coming out of American ghettos wasn't at a fever pitch in the 50's? Black culture = American culture = Earth culture.
4a) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the last 12 months? Studio - West Coast Prins Thomas presents Cosmo Galactic Prism Lindstrom & Prins Thomas - Reinterpretations Sorcerer - White Magic Gui Boratto - Chromophobia
4b) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the year you were born? Stevie Wonder - Innervisions Can - Ege Bam Yasi Neu! 2 Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? (five sentence minimum). who cares about pitchfork ratings? if everyone cared about what pitchfork thought about anything, p2p sites would be as homogeneous as radio (US radio at least). I don't read it enough to know or care, frankly.
6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? (six sentence minimum). Morrissey, come on. Being stranded with Moby's music would mean that although you'd have "Go" and "Next is the E", you're also stuck with the rest of his completely inoffensive and shit-boring catalogue, so no, thanks. Momus? really? seriously? i'm supposed to compare Morrissey to Momus? Not worth the pixels. With Morrissey you get not just great tunes but insightful lyrics to think about while you spend your day cracking open coconuts and killing lizards to eat. I'm not the biggest fan of his but i do own a lot of his work and find it inspiring on at least a music level.

2a) Explain what a ratio is in three or four sentences. The ratio is a metric of the amount shared compared to the amount downloaded. It is used to ensure speed and fairness for all.
2b)If you were a member of OiNK, tell us what your ratio was at the time of its closing. (be honest!) Around 0.6 but that was with hundreds of gigs uploaded. I had never been ratio warned and I uploaded releases. My username was 'spacemonkey'.
Difficult question. There is the argument that the origins of Jazz started from the call and response signing of African American slaves. Certainly Jazz is the first original American art form and was for the most part African American. The blues launched a thousand white rock careers. The backbeat. Motown (regardless that members of the Funk Brothers were white) which remains the best pop music ever performed. I have a huge fondness for African American music. I wrote a profile of ‘Chic’ here http://popturemagazine.com/node/16.
4a) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the last 12 months? LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Ricardo Villalobos Fabric 36 Radiohead - In Rainbows Studio - West Coast Panda Bear - Person Pitch
4b) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the year you were born? Prince - Purple Rain Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense Minute Men - Double Nickels on the Dime Cocteau Twins - Treasure R.E.M. - Reckoning
5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? (five sentence minimum). I don’t pay attention to the ratings so I can’t think of a historical injustice. But recently, Muscles 'Guns Babes Lemonade' Rating: 8.3. These are local kids that I have seen many times and are cookie cutter Modular Records trash. Pitchfork hailed them as the final synthesis of dance music with heartfelt songs. I’d rather we went back to listening to Cut Copy, who’s new stuff sounds a lot like early nineties New Order. 6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? (six sentence minimum). I’d choose Morrissey. Each year far too many people listen to alone in their bedrooms. My bedroom would be a desert island. I also like the idea of giving Morrissey some sunlight. When I got bored –which would be quickly- I’d fashion instruments from coconuts and do Lionel Richie covers. 7) BONUS REQUIREMENT: Please post a picture of yourself. 1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you on OiNK or other trackers - Nada Surf - The Proximity Effect - Danny Elfman - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory S/T - Blind Melon - Goodfoot
2a) Explain what a ratio is in three or four sentences.
- A ratio represents the value of a user's contributions. For example, if you upload twice as many files as you download, your ratio would be 2.0. This is to ensure that members are sharing their music, thereby contributing it to other users.
2b)If you were a member of OiNK, tell us what your ratio was at the time of its closing. (be honest!)
I was, and my ratio hovered around 2.550 for the last 6 months of OiNK's existence.
Simply put, Western popular music would not exist as we know it without the African American culture. Looking backward, the R&B sound that we are so familiar with was born out of the jazz and blues of the early 20th century. These types of music were born from the slave songs of the nineteenth century and before. As far as rock music, all of the most influential pop bands of the twentieth century used elements of the R&B, specifically the "Motown" sound. Artists like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Paul Simon, and countless others have embraced Motowns influence by covering tunes from the genre during their live shows and on their albums. In turn, the widespread airplay these bands received as a result of radio and other media helped them spread the influence of African American culture. It is nearly assured that every musician playing today is influenced in one way or another by this culture.
4a) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the last 12 months? 1. Iron and Wine - The Shepherds Dog 2. Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond 3. Radiohead - In Rainbows 4. The White Stripes - Icky Thump 5. Mavis Staples - Well Never Turn Back
4b) What (in order) are the 5 best releases from the year you were born?
1979 1. Pink Floyd - The Wall 2. The Police - Regatta de Blanc 3. Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps 4. Talking Heads - Fear of Music 5. The Clash - London Calling
No idea.
I would choose Moby. This seems to be the logical choice because of the time factor. Not that he necessarily has the largest catalog of music, but because its a trip to dissect his tunes. Its impossible to get sick of those complex rhythms and grooves! Hes a diverse artist that can peak my interest at any time, no boredom there.

2a) In the BitTorrent world, ratio refers to the amount of data uploaded (or seeded) over the amount of data downloaded. A ratio of 2.0 means that you've seeded twice as much as you've downloaded. A ratio of 0.2 means you've downloaded five times as much as you've seeded. Seeding is what keeps BitTorrent afloat, so maintaining a good ratio is essential.2b) I was not a member of OiNK. My ratio at Torrentech is 1.72.
3) It is almost impossible to think of a popular musical genre where African American culture has not played a central role. Although it's pretty much accepted nowadays that the early blues music laid down by figures like Mamie Smith and Blind Lemon Jefferson eventually (via Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry et al) became the foundation for later pop/rock musicians like the Beach Boys, Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan, it's still easy to take for granted how thoroughly African American culture is engrained in the popular musical imagination. Look beyond jazz, Motown and the very obvious modern hegemony of Hip Hop/R&B-derived sounds, and you can see its influence on everything from electronic dance music (techno, house and disco were all products of urban black culture) to country and bluegrass (they wouldn't exist without gospel spirituals and the banjo, both of which have Afro-American roots). Call-and-response, the pentatonic scale, and polyrhythm (to name but a few motifs of African American-inspired/derived music) have been and remain key elements of all aspects of popular music.

5) Occasionally I read at the Philip Sherburne and Martin Clark columns on Pitchfork (glad they returned), but I don't read the reviews. In fact, since using a numerical system for judging music (down to the decimal point) is nonsensical at best, I'd say all of them are equally unjust.
6) If I picked Morrissey or Momus, I might actually be tempted to sit and listen to their music rather than devoting all of my energies and efforts to building a giant mirror made out of CDs to signal for help. Moby's not-insignificant cassette tape discography would also allow me to construct a raft with which to drift slowly back to civilization and my lovely music collection.

1) I've never participated in a torrent site like this one before. I've been happy to just use Soulseek, but a friend of mine raved about Waffles, so I'm interested in checking it out. I fully intend to be a valued contributor.
2a) A ratio is "a relationship in degree or number between two similar things." In this case, those "similar things" are a user's uploaded and downloaded data. Ratios exist to ensure that users don't simply log in and take as much as they want without contributing.
2b) Never checked out OiNK, but I'm sure it was great.
3) I'm no expert, but at the very latest, black influence on American popular music began with the blues. It's possible that the spiritual songs of enslaved workers informed earlier musical forms. The blues continues to influence modern pop music, even musicians such as the Velvet Underground (for example) who tried to remove traces of the blues from their sound in order to differentiate themselves. As the century continued on, black musicians participated in most of the major developments in American popular music. (I assume you know what they are!) But black Americans didn't only influence American music; they also influenced music throughout the world. There would be no Mulatu Astatqe without Duke Ellington and his peers, and there would have been no Jimmy Cliff had there not been a Sam Cooke. And those artists have in turn influenced American artists, creating a better world in the process. *cue soaring choir*

6) Moby's music does nothing for me. Momus is a better webboard participant than he is a songwriter. Morrissey on the other hand participated in four great records with the Smiths, and several decent albums as a solo artist. His has an amazing chin. He has a ton of style. Latino dudes and dudettes love him. What's not to like?

2a) A ratio is the result you get if dividing the amount uploaded by the amount downloadedAs in if I'd download 1 GB of Music, I'd need to upload 1 GB to keep it at an even 1.0. If I want say a 3.2 ratio in this particular case you need to upload 3.2, if you dl 2 GB - you need to up 6.4 GB to maintain that ratio. You always strive for ratios better than 1.
2b) 1.3
3) What can I say. African American culture is more or less the root of everything musicwise. You can find relations to everything from today's pop - which's pathway was pawed by the likes ofJames Brown, Smokey Robinson, and the recently passed Michael Jackson. Without these artists, music such as Justin, Britney (Not that that'd sadden me the least) - or any kind of Hip-Hop - Would never have been able to be accepted and reach the masses. The black going into white people's music I'd say began with Elvis, who's biggest influence was the Blues, which was up until then, only for blacks. But gained respect in the white crowd, with the rise of Elvis.

Has to be albums or are singles + eps in the competition?
Albums Only
1. Muse - The Resistance - Album of the year until kent comes out2. Mew - No more stories... - Well, they done it again...3. New Moon OST - OST only, can't stand the Twilight series.4. Glasvegas - Glasvegas - album of the Year last year, released in Sweden, 18th October, so barely made it, but I had to mention it.
w singles and EPs included:
1. kent - Töntarna2. Glasvegas - A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss)3. Muse - The Resistance4. Mew - No more stories...5. Manic Street Preachers - Journal for Plague Lovers (Remixes) (EP)

hard...
1. Michael Jackson - Off The Wall2. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures3. The Clash - London Calling4. Queen - Live Killers - my favourite live album from them without any competition.5. Pink Floyd - The Wall
5) I'll have to go quite recent.
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13453-the-resistance/
Muse - The Resistance was given a meager 5.9 / 10
Why, because they out of some obscure reason despised everything muse did since Origin of Symmetry...
"So let's take the warm fuzzy bigness of the music at face value. It's understandable if the Buckley mannerisms and Mercury multi-tracking on "The United States of Eurasia" aren't your cup of tea. You may cringe at the Pavlov-approved crescendos that surge through "Guiding Light", the sort of thing where you imagine a ProTools preset producers have nicknamed "10,000 People Holding up Bics They Bought Especially for the Concert." And then there's "Exogenesis", the aforementioned "Symphony" in three parts. Now a Daydream Nation style knowing "trilogy" this is not. There's massed strings. There's half-time chest-beating theatrics ready for flashpots and Vegas set design. If it's not quite Keith Emerson's territory-- or Celine Dion's, for that matter-- it's a similarly grandiose ballpark where the fans wear slightly different clothes. [
And a music enjoyer's reply to this garbage:
Muse are stadium arena rock at its best. With influences such as Freddie Mercury, paired with the intenseness of Matt's voice, how can you fail? Sure it may be very much inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody - but in a worthy groovy kind of setup and performance. And I'm sorry Bitchfork, but who on this earth with anything close to a brain, and well possibly cleaned out ears would consider Jeff Buckley a bad influence?
Matt's greatest hero is the classical music composer - and moreso performer - Rachmaninov - and - all hail Rock Music - but would it have existed without the likes of Mozart and beethoven practising their pianos day and night - and - making musical love to them - later inspiring Great Balls of Fire, from a certain Jerry Lee Lewis. The Energy Prevails, through both Guiding Light - and the 3 part symphony that kicks the shit out of any album's ending till this day, bringing back memories of Jerry Lee hammering on Rachmaninovs piano, leaving sweat marks on the first and last sets of keys - after dancing on the black and whites to the heartbeats of Uprising. This is the album everyone dreams of getting to create.
6) Easy. Morrissey. I've grown up with his music, crying and sweating to "The last of the famous international playboys" - Mr. Steven Patrick Morrissey.Momus's music says nothing to me so I'll leave that at that. Moby gave me a veeery short dancefloor craze in the 90's - but despite being a anti-animaleater, like Morrissey, I don't think he'd give anything even close to satisfying my musical hunger nor my internal lack but lustful need for Teenage Angst poetry. Supplied better than by noone other than Morrissey. All the way from wanting to die as a teenager just from boredom, and molding the likes of Manic Street Preachers, esp Richey. - toliving in America, while doing a song on how much better England and Ireland are - in an amusing and very sarcastic expression - Only Morrissey can walk that mile.

jooeyman, buddy, have you ever heard of Frank Hutchison? Darby & Tarlton? Dock Boggs? Your knowledge of early American pop music seems to be woefully undeveloped, and that just won't fly on Waffles. Tell ya what, if you write me an essay (6 sentences minimum)(HINT: do at least 8 sentences) on the early history of white country blues, I'll pretend you never made such an ignorant fool of yourself, and you might have a fighting chance of joining the Waffles community just in time for Hallowaffleen. Deal?
― Waffles Admin (unregistered), Saturday, 17 October 2009 13:02 (sixteen years ago)
I'll give it a shot, here goes:
In the 1960's the greatness of the blues, was discovered by white American and European musicians.Quite a few of these blues-inspired bands became legends. Many of these are well-renowned and known to many still today.Bands such as The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Canned Heat, Cream and The Yardbirds made the blues appeal to young white audiences, something that black blues artists had yet not been able to do in America. With the exception of white crossover covers of black rhythm and blues songs. Such as Frank Hutchison - already recording in the early 1920's - and thus considered the first white man to record the blues. Soon to be followed by Darby & Tarlton - who with their songs "Birmingham Jail" and "Columbus Stockade Blues", coupled on one record, managed to sell more than 200 000 copies.
Rock has since the 1960's undergone several quite a few blues revivals. For example Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and even Eddie Van Halen - are inspired by the blues - and used it as a foundation for their own offshoot styles. With this inspiriring generations to listen to as well as to play the blues.

3) Briefly summarize the influence of African American culture on Western popular music (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum). The whole start to jazz, which brought along things such as soul was started by African Americans. That with the help of things like Motown got swirled into popular music, and started becoming interracial. Another influence it has was the birth of hip hop from soul, which is a major factor in pop music, and today where it has transformed to rap. 5) What is the most unjust pitchfork numerical rating? Why? (five sentence minimum).I think girls was the most unjust rating at 9.1. The simple indie pop tunes, and standard vocals brought nothing to the table. Sure, it was an okay album, but for it to score that high on such an egotistical scale is dumb. I can't stand girls album's pop tunes for more than 4 minutes. I hope pitchfork would wise up about their idiotic rating scale.
6) You are stranded on a desert island. Choose one artist's music: Morrissey, Moby, or Momus? Why? Meat is murder and The Queen is Dead are both pure gold, so i would always choose Morrissey, despite his rocky solo career in my opinion. Moby might have been an interesting choice though..
