I wear plaid shorts proudly

I used to lurk on some crutis forums (crüt), Friday, 20 August 2010 04:48 (thirteen years ago) link

"fashion people" like lamp and phil exempt from that law, im just talking about the bro-y plaid shorts that ppl buy from target or whatever and are always awful and ill-fitting and seem to be the 2010 version of pre-worn cargo shorts

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 05:07 (thirteen years ago) link

like these? :(

WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE (wdyll) drunk august 2010?

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Friday, 20 August 2010 05:14 (thirteen years ago) link

those look like capris

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 05:25 (thirteen years ago) link

but... yes.

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 05:26 (thirteen years ago) link

i think they only look like capris cause you can't see my legs. got them like 3 years ago cause of the inspiration of young dro in my life. i don't think they were a trend yet.

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Friday, 20 August 2010 05:35 (thirteen years ago) link

its ok i forgive you

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 05:37 (thirteen years ago) link

i only have 2 pairs of shorts tho and have no $ for new clothes, so i'm not going to stop wearing them. sorry.

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Friday, 20 August 2010 05:39 (thirteen years ago) link

are they really worse than cargo shorts tho?

bela guolaosi (cozen), Friday, 20 August 2010 08:15 (thirteen years ago) link

not at all

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Friday, 20 August 2010 08:35 (thirteen years ago) link

these must die

Ground Zero Mostel (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

If only there were some sort of non-shorts-conducive extended weather pattern forthcoming to kill them off.

Ground Zero Mostel (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Prefer cargo shorts to any of these, but prefer cargo shorts mostly in Army green and not as just another incarnation of khaki(s).

Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:04 (thirteen years ago) link

I can deal with these if they are mostly monochromatic - like dark grey shorts with with light grey plaids on them - but I haven't been able to bring myself to try the ones that are all orange and yellow and stuff. This may be more of a function of me being afraid of color in general though.

kkvgz, Friday, 20 August 2010 17:06 (thirteen years ago) link

as with most mens clothes i can handle these if they *fit* and are patterned in a *pleasing way* but i see them on literally millions of bros every day and i wonder--what are you thinking you look like here? like a cool alternabro too hip for 'plain colors'? like the author of the preppy handbook?--because you look like you are wearing your older brothers boxers

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 17:11 (thirteen years ago) link

i did a search for "plaid jorts" and thankfully came up with nothing

goole, Friday, 20 August 2010 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't think it's possible for cargo shorts to look good even if they do ~fit~ but am prepared to be corrected w/photos of nice cargos

bela guolaosi (cozen), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:16 (thirteen years ago) link

(psst coz i agree with u but some people are just implacable so)

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 17:17 (thirteen years ago) link

i suppose i should throw my cards on the table here too, beyond a few specific and limited exceptions, i hate patterns and logos and designs

max, Friday, 20 August 2010 17:18 (thirteen years ago) link

I like cargo shorts over a tanned knee and some sinewy calf action, c'mon.

Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm v.much pro short btw

tho apparently some ppl think they're 'uncouth'

bela guolaosi (cozen), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

because you look like you are wearing your older brothers boxers

Assuming your older brother has continued to grow at the same rate as you and is now like 8'3"

Ground Zero Mostel (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I do generally like the trend I have noticed of better fitting shorts. I feel like I see more well-dressed NYers wearing shorts this year than usual because of this.

Back when our grandparents were young, the only people who wore shorts were small children, but this attitude largely went out in the 60s, I think.

love that Junya Watanabe summer suit that Phil posted. surprised he hasn't pulled the trigger on it yet tbh!

the shorts debate has been done on ILX and I think it boiled down to people who live in colder more conservative areas typically frown upon them and people who live in liberal, warmer areas do not. ditto flip-flops.

this is otm - seeing fewer and fewer shorts breach the knee line which is good news for everyone, even if they are plaid

? (dyao), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:16 (thirteen years ago) link

eh, not my style at all even beyond the fact they'd cost me half a week's pay

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:16 (thirteen years ago) link

I wd never pay tht ($130) for a pair of shorts btw

bela guolaosi (cozen), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:17 (thirteen years ago) link

i can't really imagine wearing shorts that fell above my knee tbh. i hate my bony-ass knees.

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:17 (thirteen years ago) link

well I hate my pasty white fat thighs but that ain't stoppin me

? (dyao), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:18 (thirteen years ago) link

think I need some tips on sock length & shorts. no-show? ankle length?

? (dyao), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:20 (thirteen years ago) link

it's not really just myself, i guess, i don't really like the way above-the-knee shorts look on men. i probably shouldn't be posting on i love style.

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:21 (thirteen years ago) link

i spent part of the summer wearing no-shows, then got tired of sweaty feet and started going sockless and was much happier thereafter

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:22 (thirteen years ago) link

It's cool, The Reverend. Sometimes I Love Style needs its opinions challenged.

meat by mistake (kkvgz), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I wanna do that but I don't want to stink up my nice new shoes. thinking of getting shoe liners from a ladiezzzzz shop

? (dyao), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:24 (thirteen years ago) link

i might even bite the bullet and get sandals next summer

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:27 (thirteen years ago) link

i haven't worn sandals since i was, like, 8

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:28 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah I dunno if I'm ready to welcome flip flops back into my closet yet

? (dyao), Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:29 (thirteen years ago) link

FUCK! the Junya Watanabe red plaid suit upthread sold out... i was trying to buy it yesterday but its from a swedish shop so my CC got denied, so i called my CC oday to fix it, went back to the online shop and its gonnnnne... UGGGGGGH..... WHY GODDD

phil-two, Sunday, 22 August 2010 23:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Well-fitting ones in traditional/monochromatic colors like the one Lamp posted paired with nice shoes and a polo shirt, classic.

Baggy ones with orange in the plaid and paired with Billabong t-shirts and flip-flops, dud dud dud! I can smell the waft of cheap cologne that comes with it just thinking about it.

I like shorts that fall above the knee tho, like this:

the picture lamp posted was from like a japanese fashion book about the ivy league published in the 70s right? can't remember where I've seen it before

janice (surm), Monday, 23 August 2010 03:34 (thirteen years ago) link

they actually sit right at the hip and drop-crotch'y but i thought it would be a funny photo if i hiked em up real high and tuck in my tshirt, urkel style.
