US acts covering British songs, and vice versa

Hey ILM! I'm making a playlist for an American colleague who is returning to the good ol' US of A, after a period over here in Blighty. I'm helping to make her a playlist of US acts covering British songs, and vice versa, but am finding it tricky. All I have so far is Mike Watt covering Wire's The 15th. Can people recommend some other favourites? Thanks!

How wide a period of time do you want covered? There are a load of Motown/other soul covers by 60s mod etc acts.

& covers of country, folk, Dylan, etc etc proliferate.

good point. I'm not too bothered about the timeframe, more personal favourites I suppose. Speaking of Motown covers, The Fall do a good one of R Dean Taylor's "There's a Ghost in my House". Perhaps interesting covers that recontextualise the song, like that Fall cover?

I like their version of "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey".

Of course Beatles covers by American artsts are pretty common, and you probably wouldn't want to fill up a playlist with just that.

this is where yo la tengo still have their uses. still love their version of the kinks' 'oklahoma usa' but there's a load of dumb stuff on 'ylt is murdering the classics' if you wanna go for comedy value instead

Maybe too obvious, but two of my favorite covers of all time:

Pet Shop Boys - "Always On My Mind"
Soft Cell - "Tainted Love"

Radiohead covered 'Rhinestone cowboy'
Ladytron 'Oops Oh My'
Goldfrapp 'Physical'
Union Avenue 'Ace of Spades' (they're not American but it sounds country style...)
Kenickie 'letter to memphis'
Pretenders 'Every day is like Sunday'
