Dang, Mountain Goats played for a minute (the trio, two electified acoustic guitars plus drums, also a keyboardist off to the side), then a cable started buzzing, promptly back to the live chatter we get between sets, couldn't fix it, so now the Dawes-ish Hey Marseilles.Hopefully back to MGs.

Now: Rayland Baxter (son of steel player Bucky, who used to extend the siren sound of "Highway 61" in Dylan's 90s touring band). Okay woolgathering lyrics, but in the loom w immediately appealing melodicism of fingerpicking reverb & steel. Oh and now cogently covering "To Ramona."

Followed by an impromptu boogie, incl good lyrics re "brown water"(been passing around the whiskey)

sister harmonies on the fiddles right in there.

The Lone Bellow, true folk-rockers: not that crazy about Zach Williams' winsome voice and lyrics, but spirited tunes, beats, Brian Elmquist's ace electric guitar and vocals; the female singer/mandolinist, big bass, drums, they know how to work the audience into stomping, singing on-key, slow-dancing. Go see 'em.

Houndsmouth: yet more who-cares plaid lyrics, tensile tunes, good picking, well-timed cymbals, lucid vocals, especially with an edge from proganist/switch-out drummer Katie, she of the lonnng legs--good preparation for Shovels & Rope, though they're a duo following full-blooded combos; should be good anyway; female & male S&R do have the songs (lyrics as well as music, finally).

"proganist"? Organist. Oh yeah Shovels & Rope right into it. She: voice, drums; He: electric fast strumming, voice, harmonica. Hope they do their True Blood soundtrack song.

Joplin's version of "Me and Bobby McGee", Delaney & Bonnie: relevant associations (young enough to be their children or grandchildren).

John Doe & Exene without the attempts to hold notes (wise)

Not to mention some guitar which would do Billy Zoom (or at least Dave Alvin) proud---now they're covering the hell out of Wreckless Eric's "The Whole Wide World"---

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, cooking and popping and slinking on the French Quarter Mothership---hope they'll incl. their take on "Back In Black."
