ILM Snapshot II - What are the last 5 (or so) songs you downloaded from Napster?

Inspired by Tom, especially his reasoning that the last five records might give a 'truer' impression than just favorite albums, I think it would be neat to see the last 5 (or so) songs people downloaded from Napster. Sometimes people's real true color come through in those split-second impulse 'I've gotta hear THIS song NOW' moments.

I can't remember all of mine right now; let's just say one of them was, indeed, "Caribbean Queen." Ouch...

I'm working through downloads from other sources these days, and I vacuum up in bulk. I think the last batch of songs that I got that originally came from Napster was the work of the brilliant Icy Hot Stuntaz, for which I can't decide whether to shoot or praise Dan Perry for.

Adelaide's Lament (from Guys and Dolls)

Poison (Bel Biv Devoe)

Spinning Around (Kylie Minogue)

Party Fears Two (The Associates)

Buttercup (The Temptations)

Can you spot which two of the above were as a direct result of reading an ILM thread?

Madchen, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

From Napster in particular? Here's the last 5 I just downloaded in general...

Radiohead - Trans-Atlantic Drawl
Radiohead - Fast-Track
Radiohead - Kinetic
Blur - Yuko & Hiro
Destiny's Child - Bills, Bills Bills hmmm

Melissa W, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

no napster:(

no pc at home:(

gareth, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I haven't been on Napster in ages! I can't remember, so I'm just going to state I downloaded Destiny's Child's album pretty recently.

GEEZER ALERT! GEEZER ALERT!

I don't know how (or what I need) to download MP3s. Expensive new computer probably (Mac System 7 upwards: I've got the last LC475 in captivity)

However I can program my video, thank you, and I own 12 DVDs. (Actually 15, but it's not so hu-morous)

mark s, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The Hellacopters - "No Dogs"
Ol' Dirty Bastard - "Sussudio"
Skitz - "Cordless Mics At 20 Paces"
Mystikal - "Jump"
The Archies - "Sugar, Sugar"

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The speakers on my computer don't work, and it's a sub-pentium...so I haven't even attempted to download stuff from Napster. If I did I'd probably download any Smile track I could find.

james e l, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The last five songs I downloaded from Napster were all by Icy Hot Stuntaz. I would be embarassed, but I'm too busy laughing.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

on the internet novelty food chain, mahir > all your base > icy hot stuntaz.

and what's with all the disturbing racial implications in online comedy nowadays? can't we just go back to the dancing baby? that was funny because it was a baby and it was dancing.

ethan, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The dancing baby was more creepy than funny imho. It was on Ally McBeal, for gods sake; that's my criticism of that show as well.

Nicole, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Ethan, the main racial overtone that I can see in Icy Hot Stuntaz is that these three idiots belong to a special moronic race of their very own. They also should be cited for abuse of the word "motherfucker".

The dancing baby did not make me laugh until it appeared on Ally McInvisible-When-She-Turns-Sideways.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

great idea for a thread because everyone already knows that the album is dead.

1. david ruffin, "walk away from love"
2. hellacopters, "gimme shelter"
3. smokey robinson, "cruisin'"
4. turbonegro, "i got erection (german version)"
5. beck & timbaland, "diamond dogs"

1 and 3 i have on cassette, but i want them in DIGITAL sound.

Don't have Napster set up currently, so I'll have to opt for the last five things I downloaded as MP3, coincidentally also all from the link

Whoops...messed up the last post for the want of a close quotation. Don't have Napster set up currently, so I'll have to opt for the last five things I downloaded as MP3, coincidentally also all from the same place:

1. Evolution Control Committee - Rocked by Rape
2. Evolution Control Committee - The Fucking Moon
3. Evolution Control Committee - The Christmas Wrong
4. Evolution Control Committee - Swopepusha
5. Evolution Control Committee - No Time for Yes (ethan'd probably hate this one

Vin Zee - Funky Bee Bop
Public Enemy - Anti-Nigger Machine
Cybotron - Industrial Lies
Dynamic Breakers - Dynamic
NERD - Bobby James

Chris H., Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Most recent first:

Oxide & Neutrino - "Up Middle Finger (Live)". Great stuff. Electro- influenced breakbeat garage, I suppose. "They wanna dis "Bound 4 Da Reload"!/They wanna talk to Neutrino/No no no...Did I mention we're only eighteen?"

Bobby Darren (sic) - "Somewhere Beyond The Sea". Don't you just love the Napster name block?

KMD - "Who Me?". Need to hear more KMD.

Mark B & Blade - "Ya Don't See The Signs (Feeder Remix)". As I thought, I prefer the original. It'd be nice to see this as a hit even so.

Milkbone - "Dear Slim". Work it out.

Greg, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

everything from 'mr.hood' is perfect. there's so much more than just bert & ernie going on in that song (but that's funny too, even though it's all people focus on). am i the only one who didn't think 'black bastards' was as good?

ethan, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Outkast - Bombs Over Baghdad
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed
Bright Eyes - Soon You'll Be Leaving Your Man
Quickspace - Gloriana

Those first 3 are all b/c of mentions on ILM.

bnw, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I've never downloaded anything from napster.

DV, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

McCarthy, "Get A Knife Between Your Teeth" Belle and Sebastian, "My Wandering Days Are Over" Piano Magic, "Wrong French" Piano Magic, "Revolving Moth Cage" Piano Magic, "Soft Magnets"

None anything directly to do with ILM. Some might lead to it, though.

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I download stuff all the time - last 5 were the 3 B-Sides to Pyramid Song (4,6, and 2 out of 10 respectively, but that's why they're B- Sides), Pink's You Make Me Sick and Dido's Thank You (those two for the live focus group last Sunday).

BUT those weren't from Napster. And the question said Napster. So - going back well over 2 weeks here.

Lloyd Cole - Minor Character (via ILM - no prizes for guessing who's responsible for this)

Saint Etienne - Mario's Cafe (upgrade from tape to magic digital sound!)

DJ Assault - Hoez Get Naked

Barry Manilow - Ready To Take A Chance Again

Timbaland feat Fatman Scoop - Drop

Tom, Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The Cure - Killing an Arab Suede - Digging a Hole Nick Drake - Clothes of Sand Suede - Be My God Suede - My Insatiable One(piano version)

That's pretty indicative of my limited tastes in music, I feel. Or that I just couldn't find anything other than Suede b-sides on Napster.

Phil A., Wednesday, 9 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Having abandoned Napster since the corporates moved in, my last five from Audiogalaxy are:

Clouddead, "Clouddead Part 1 Side A" (actually I'm downloading that right now, so maybe it shouldn't count) Glen Campbell, "Where's The Playground, Susie?" Nas, "Nas Is Like" Oxide and Neutrino, "Up Middle Finger" Herb Alpert, "This Guy's In Love With You"
