Seems like there were a lot of song with the "makin' it" or "made it" phrase...
What the hell does it mean to "make it" ?
Barry Manilow - "Looks like we made it"
"I think we can make it, one more time" (who was that? I've forgotten)
Smokey "Essar" Robinson - "I Think We Can Make It "
That song by Dr. Pepper about "Makin' It" - at least that's about making it in the business...
And Bread's "I'd like to make it with you" - I think the preceeding line refers to what "It" is....
Is anyone else as annoyed as I am at "We made it" or "We'll make it" ...?
Has anyone ever said to their partner, "I think we're going to make it, baby." ...?
I could see saying it as a kind of a put-down when someone makes something very shoddily, and you'd say "looks like you made it."
Give me more examples (because it's like a train wreck to me .. kind of like reading "things" where the "writer" put in "too" many quotes or, punctuate's improperly.)
Or give me an example where it isn't a stupid lyric....

It usually seems to mean
not split up, but with the gravity of being, say, trapped under rubble for a week. How pessimistic?!

Does Blur count?
"And it looks like we might of made it,
Yes it looks like we made it to the end."
I think it's great - although it generally does suck like an italian whore.

not split up, but with the gravity of being, say, trapped under rubble for a week. yeah - but then gotten back together and now more passionate than ever.. But my guess is that only one of the two in the couple is saying "Yes! we made it!" and the other is saying "Yeah - I'm still with that melancholy sap... for now... "

"although it generally does suck like an italian whore."
Do you mean a whore in Italy who may well be an illegal immigrant from the Balkans or a whore who was born and grew up in Italy but who might be plying her trade in some other country?

"making it" is definately shaggin' ala Saturday night fever "So we gonna make it or what?"
but Made it...well madonna said " but I made it through...didn't know how lost I was... "
so If you can do it by yourself does that make it masturbation?

So that means
"I think we can make it, one more time" is about break-up sex.
and "Looks like we made it" might be about mattress stains?

No "it", but I love the sentiment of Linda Ronstadt's desperate new wave song "How Do I Make You", it's makes me think of Pete Shelley.
