your musical quintessence

I challenge all of you to post one song which manages to push as many of your musical buttons as is possible, a song which could have been written by the world's best market-research team, with a target demographic of you. It doesn't have to be your favourite song (shouldn't be, one could argue) but it does have to come as close as any song can to summarising everything you love about music.

My profferance is Whateley by Thumpermonkey, who deserve some ILX exposure, especially for having composed something this preposterously widescreen and perfectly suited to my most egregious indulgences

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

It's this particular performance as much as the song(s); the aggression, the rhythmic drive, the wildness of the solos (especially the guitar and bass solos)...I have the CD of this performance and have listened to it too many times to count.

i'm a bit burned out on it these days but it's hard for me to argue that this doesn't contain pretty much everything that makes a song rule for me

Not my favorite song or even my favorite artist, but everything I love: Poppy, hooky arrangement, female vocals, decent bass playing, smart (or "smart" depending on yr POV) lyrics, a melancholy at odds with the arrangement, chimey guitars . . .
