Xiu Xiu's 2006 LP THE AIR FORCE is fucking brilliant but all their other records are really hit or miss to me. for some reason it's also their most under-discussed album for some reason. Polyvinyl is reissuing it in October. Anyone else think this is an underrated masterpiece?

this reminds me of the legendary ILX thread xiu xiu live at emo's recording

Remember it being very good, but any significant reason for the reissue otherwise? I would have thought Fabulous Muscles was more of a candidate.

it's out of print. slightly different artwork too: http://xiuxiu.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Xiu-Xiu_Air-Force-500.jpg

Wonder why.

Yeah, I don't know, its weird. If you go to the Kill Rock Stars shop its the only one of his that is marked as 'SOLD OUT'. Was it just a smaller pressing than usual or something?

probably. it definitely got overshadowed the year it came out

Fab Musc is one of the few that's actually kinda "not great"
Air Force is prob my 3rd favourite, the best 2nd period record, the first two win my heart because they were there first. Red Guts is enormously underrated, the best sounding noise record I've maybe ever heard, weird hi-fi no-melody music.

i saw jamie do a solo set in 2012 that was absolutely devastating - "buzz saw" and "wig master" back to back. there was a low drone that just ran through the entire set. unbelievable, funereal performance. can't wait to see him again

new interview http://www.undertheradarmag.com/interviews/2014_artist_survey_xiu_xiu/
What was the low point of 2014 for you? "I have gotten the distinct impression that people are tired of hearing about my low points, why bore you further with this until our next record comes out? This is at least low and dumb: getting in a fist fight over a parking space at Trader Joe's and breaking two of my toes in the process. I did, however, complete my shopping afterwards, and I did end up with the parking spot."

The sleeper for me is La Foret but boy is their catalog deep.

great interview, I wonder what TV series they'll be working on

The most underrated record in their catalog is actually "Nina", just bc it was panned enormously and it totally rules

New Antony/ANOHNI kinda reminds me of Xiu Xiu a bit. Not so much sonically, but in the uncomfortable directness of the lyrics and melodrama and such.

Yeah reading that thread made me think of The Air Force. listened to 'Drone Bomb Me,' sorta went one ear out the other, but i'll get the record soon...
