my Kompakt choices would be v different from the ones that made it probably. i think the ultimate Superpitcher is "Heroin," i like him at his most enervated

theres also a whole circle of cheesier club classics that i think i associate more w/ when i went out dancing ... green velvet's "shake & pop", Classixx "i'll get you," simian mobile disco's "it's the beat" (i preferred "I Believe" but at the time "It's the Beat" was the bigger club song)

thing is, w/ all this stuff i was getting into old stuff at the same time. so a track like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5XS1CZV9w4

might as well have been 'new' or like a Still Going joint to me.

oh yeah roisin murphy's "let me know" would have to make it !

i assume cut copy was too indie pop for teh dance massive? ill admit that i would have voted bob sinclair's "world hold on". maybe i should just make a list

The rain in Spin circles mainly on the mansplain (D-40), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 08:33 (eleven years ago) link

tim f otm re: Shakedown "At Night"

other songs I'm surprised not to see:

modjo "lady (hear me tonight)"
xpress 2 "lazy" (except in dog latin's list)
"groovejet"
"lola's them"

im sure theres more if i think abt it but w/e

in the 2-cheesy-but-cmon-its-still-better-than-[zing!] category, deepest blue 'deepest blue'

ill admit that i would have voted bob sinclair's "world hold on"

not gonna lie, i would have voted for 'love generation' if i'd remembered it existed

v for viennetta (c sharp major), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 08:57 (eleven years ago) link

Lady would def be in my top 100 tunes. Also etienne de crecy's "am I wrong"!

You mean that he originally put it out as a KDJ track in 1999?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arsZacqvkc8

He's done that pretty often hasn't he.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 09:16 (eleven years ago) link

I voted for "At Night", and probably would have voted for "Lady" if I'd seen it - there's a bunch of 99-00 stuff which I think will slip between the two decade-in-dance polls. There's some frankendance/Modular/indieclash stuff I certainly danced to last decade (begrudgingly or not), but it didn't seem to fit. Not sure what kind of catchment something like Kavinsky would fall under.

re: Rex the Dog, he had a fairly much flawless run for a little while - that dub of Depeche Mode's "Photographic" (and the uh associated "Since U Been Gahan" via DJ Earworm) was way better than it needed to be.

Been listening to a lot of these entries this week. Some I like well enough, many I must admit I find a bit of a snooze. That Still Going track is the epitome of snooze in my book - much duller than Spaghetti Circus. Other tracks I can't stand because they've been used in one too many TV adverts or DVD menus etc, although that's no fault of the track itself. I didn't really see what was so impressive about I Feel Space personally. I'd heard it a few times before and, well it's a nice little tune but it didn't blow my mind or anything. Oh well, sorry for the negativeness. There's plenty of stuff here that I do like too.

i wish i'd had time to participate in this when it was going. i have time to think about a list now! :(

anyone got a handy link to the whole top 110?

lex pretend, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:10 (eleven years ago) link

this reminds me of that month a year or two ago when i had to bail on two separate weddings of close friends because i was broke. three months later i had more than enough money to travel abroad but they'd already got married and i'd missed it

WHY DID I HAVE TO HAVE SO LITTLE SPARE TIME WHEN YOU WERE ON THIS THING ;_; ;_;

i'm sure i'll now begin thinking of everything you overlooked in my absence today

TO GET THE QUIBBLING STARTED where are "washing up (tiga mix)" and "kinda new (tiefschwarz mix)"

lex pretend, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:19 (eleven years ago) link

i have to be all or nothing with these lists. if i can't fully commit to a list i have to pretend it doesn't exist for my own sanity. i realise this is perhaps an odd take on "sanity" but IT WORKS 4 ME

lex pretend, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:20 (eleven years ago) link

smh at "romeo" being the highest placed b jaxx track or indeed present at all, it's so shit

irl fistpump at "emerge" placing, WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU ELECTROCLASH. but where oh where is "rippin kittin"?

yessss @ "the sun can't compare" and "what else is there"

lex pretend, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:22 (eleven years ago) link

I agree with Matt that a lot of this list feels like it's tracking personal history - and in particular ILX history - in a way that the 90s list is unlikely to.

Funny to think that rolling dance music threads only started in 2004. I looked to see what threads we first talked about "At Night" in and it was splayed across all sorts of threads. I like to think that's a tune that would gotten a big ILX crossover if we had had the rolling/polling infrastructure we have now.

Funny to think that rolling dance music threads only started in 2004

the year i moved to london and started raving in earnest!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:37 (eleven years ago) link

Just want to point out that Daft Punk are at #10 rather than #1, it's the layout of the page that's a bit odd. #1 is 'I Feel Space'.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:42 (eleven years ago) link

Why ARE they laid out like that anyway?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:44 (eleven years ago) link

I remember there was a rolling dancehall thread in 2003 that got a lot of action.

What I think ignited the dance threads in 2004 (in addition to you moving to London and starting to rave in earnest) was the sense of everything converging that year. I think arguably the "Kinda New" remix was the moment in this regard.

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:44 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah i know, if i'd thought daft punk were number one i would have been much more displeased

and yet "kinda new" is absent HMMMMMMMM

lex pretend, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:47 (eleven years ago) link

an ilx search i just did suggests that the rolling threads all started in 2004 -- but i guess there were threads that were rolling before they became "rolling threads"

Matt, i think the layout is like that because that's how tumblr automatically lays out images, with the first one full-size and the rest stacked. So if the tumblr-creater had put them in 1-10 rather than 10-1, Lindstrom would be biggest.

i like the way it's come out because one more time might not be the best but it is still BIGGEST

v for viennetta (c sharp major), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:51 (eleven years ago) link

This is the thread I was thinking of:

What are people's favourite dancehall rhythms of the year or so...

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 10:54 (eleven years ago) link

well, there's another morning lost to the youtube k-hole

v for viennetta (c sharp major), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 11:32 (eleven years ago) link

That dancehall thread was amazing - one of the first "I'm living in a golden age of music" moments via ILx. Lex, I wish you'd voted; I probably wouldn't have been the only vote for "I Love Asphalt"! I do wonder if Tiefschwarz & the Pearson Freeform Five remix were victims of the frankendance that followed in their wake and were unjustly tarred w/the same brush.

etc, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 13:09 (eleven years ago) link

Why ARE they laid out like that anyway?

Tumblr wouldn't let me just stack them up evenly for whatever reason. I use Chrome, and the way they're set up you can click on the big one and it will bring up just the picture and you can just arrow through them in order. Clearly that isn't working for everybody.

Oh man, I am listening to the AMAZING Joris Voorn Balance mix and it's like: 00's Minimal? shit is REAL.

Hadn't realised J.A.N. was 1997. I guess we need to vote again then. I'm sure everyone fine with that, right?

LOL @ Dissensus bafflement at this list

god I'm glad ILM shaped my taste in dance music

lex pretend, Friday, 7 September 2012 13:21 (eleven years ago) link

god, i always forget dissensus still exists

thomp, Friday, 7 September 2012 13:25 (eleven years ago) link

i didn't mean to go there, someone linked me :(

there only seem to be about three people on it anyway

lex pretend, Friday, 7 September 2012 13:28 (eleven years ago) link

Was going to say, I thought you were boycotting them.

Both Dissensus and ILX have informed my dance tastes, but the Dissensus I used to be interested in hasn't existed for a long while.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 7 September 2012 13:30 (eleven years ago) link

And I'm not overly surprised that not many people here voted for the Digital Mystikz.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 7 September 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

I like the dude who sticks his head above the parapet and is all "maybe we are a bit too nuum-centric after all" and then everyone pulls rank and starts handwringing over what should be allowed in their own poll.

Matt DC, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:54 (eleven years ago) link

i like this dude:

'Fairground' by Simply Red.

UK Funky avant la lettre
