Is this any good? I downloaded one song and it sounded overproduced. I turned it off after 30 seconds. Should I give it another shot?

I've just been trying to come up with some clever My So Called Life joke but the well's dry. Sorry.

Metacritic: 30 Seconds to Mars

Only listened to one track on the radio a few months back (the album gets a full UK release next week), from the descriptions I expect the sound like VAST on their last album, i.e atmospheric epic melodic rock.

The AMG review 9/10 implies they are the acceptable face of modern rock with sound inspirations covering Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and Rush.

Looks like someone didn't read his Steve Albini before diving into the major-label waters!

This would probably be a better zing if the examples used in that over-linked-to piece were of a band selling 250,000 as opposed to 2.5 million

Isn't this just the first stage of marketing for their next album?

Because you all really wanted to know:

Thirty Seconds To Mars will premiere their latest highly anticipated video for their single “This Is War” today on Vevo. In the clip, band members Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic portray soldiers at battle.

“This Is War” became the band’s third career #1 alternative radio single and second consecutive #1 from their platinum-selling album This Is War when it reached the top of the chart last July.

The album’s current single “Closer to the Edge” reached the top 10 at alternative radio and has since crossed to Top 40 where it is at #34 and to Hot AC where it is at #24 this week and climbing on both charts. It follows “This Is War” and the album’s lead single “Kings & Queens” which spent 3 weeks at the top of the alternative radio chart and has sold over 650,000 digital downloads. The “Closer To The Edge” video has been added to MTV, MTV2, MTVU, MTV Hits, MTV Tr3s, Fuse, Music Choice and VH1 where it placed #13 on the this week’s Top 20 Countdown show.

Thirty Seconds To Mars recently announced that they’re adding theme/party nights at shows during their North American “Closer To The Edge” tour which kicks off Friday night in San Jose, CA. The band will dress up and is encouraging their fans to do so as well. The themes will vary from market to market and includes such nights at the classic White Night, Hurricane Night, This Is War/Military Night, Yuppie/Preppie Night, Doctor/Patient/Medical Night, Sport Night, 80’s Night, Zombie Night, Prom Night, Bloodball Night, Goth/Punk Night, Field & Stream Night, Superhero/Comic Night and Warpaint/Color/Neon Night.

When you're on a load of promo lists, you get all kinds of strange things in the mail.

apols if this is an Americanism I'm not down with but is 'market' being used as a substitute word for 'venue' there?

No I'm pretty sure they would mean market. Why bother pretending otherwise?

ORLY:

Thirty Seconds To Mars have announced that they will release “Night Of The Hunter (Shannon Leto Remix)” on Sept. 18th. The single which was originally on the Thirty Seconds To Mars’ acclaimed 3rd album This Is War has been re-worked for the dance floor by the band’s powerhouse drummer Shannon Leto.

“’Night Of The Hunter’ is one of my favorite songs to play live with my band [Thirty Seconds To Mars] and I really wanted to reinvent it, to shed a different light on it by bringing a dance element to it. I'm excited share the remix out there in the world!” expressed Leto.

Shannon Leto is one of rock’s most dynamic drummers of present day. Bob Ezrin (KISS, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones), identifies Leto as “one of the most inventive drummers I’ve worked with. He isn’t satisfied with simply adding a beat; his drum parts are an integral part of orchestration.” Steve Lillywhite (U2, Peter Gabriel, Morrissey) agrees; "Shannon treats drumming unlike most drummers do in rock bands. His cross rhythms explode in a guttural way...very musical, extremely unique.”

Stepping outside of the rock world, Leto’s connection in the dance world is energized passion. Taking his vested interest in dance music to the next level, Leto hosted several after-hours parties in 2011 and 2012, bringing his beats and percussion to Norway, Austria, Russia and Portugal among other noted clubs.
