Nation Of Millions, Surfer Rosa, Isn't Anything, I'm Your Man, Green, 16 Lovers Lane and By All Means Necessary all make my shortlist. Just realized I still haven't heard Critical Beatdown and Strictly Business in full, and should.

Voting Happy Mondays just to give em a vote, but probably feel Daydream Nation in my heart.

Another great year though. Josh Clover's book about 1989 is really true, and you can see it starting to foment in these last two polls.

I'd also give it to the Mondays. I really think Bummed is an excellent album, though I admit my perspective is colored by the excellent 2-disc set that has like, six WFLs on it.

Although if Lincoln by TMBG or A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window by Cardiacs were on here I'd vote one of those

if i "want to cut through the bullshit and go with what i have actually listened to the most since 1988" i have to go with Green because I bought that in 1989 (first CD purchase I ever made). Didn't own another of these until Sonic Youth in like 1992-1993.

most listened doesn't help me at all, cuz there's no clear winner between the top 4 on this list

so i have been thinking about this. i wanted to go for what i loved at the time which would be Surfer Rosa or Nothing's Shocking. then i was thinking which album i discovered a few year later like Daydream Nation,
Isn't Anything or the fabulous Bummed. not voting Happy Mondays because i like the remixes more so and glad that some others are voting for it here. so i'm flipping a coin and going with My Bloody Valentine.

also If I Should Fall from Grace with God is wonderful as well, hope it does get a vote or two.

can anyone tell me about Lucinda Williams, this Cowboy Junkies album and/or Mary Margaret O'Hara

i can tell you that the trinity session is gorgeous, the album that made the band's reputation, and that it was nearly inescapable for a decade after its release. was famously recorded in a church by a single microphone. soulful country and blues played whisper quiet, with a remarkably clear and rich sound. comparable in certain respects to low, mazzy star and the xx. i love it, my sister loves it, my mom loves it too. the originals hold their own with covers of classic hank williams and velvet underground songs.

less familiar with the lucinda williams album, but it got quite a bit of press and play at the time. tough, personal singer-songwriter country w blues, rock and folk elements. "passionate kisses" was a big hit for mary chapin carpenter a couple years later.

don't know a damn thing about mary margaret o'hara, but the allmusic review has me intrigued.
