I don't much care for Lennon's solo career but his 1980 interviews, particularly the ones recorded on the day he died (or the day before?), are as intelligent and revealing as one could want from a 40-year-old rock star.

Not much recorded evidence from the 1960-62 period - sad given have many gigs they played during that era. Astonishingly, there is an extant recording from 1957 of John playing live on stage on the day he met Paul McCartney.
